WESTLIFE IN GALWAY!!!!!
THE FOLLOWING IS AN ARTICLE I WROTE FOLLOWING THE APPEARANCE OF WESTIFE IN GAWAY, ON MARCH 27TH 1999. THIS ARTICLE APPEARED IN THE GALWAY CITY TRIBUNE ON APRIL 2ND.
The atmosphere was electric. Hordes of exhilarated screaming girls lined the streets. The bulging doors of the record shop were now firmly closed. 400 fans were inside. Another 200 were outside. All screaming, chanting, and singing, they eagerly grasped autograph books and cameras. Where could it be??

Dublin¹s Virgin Megastore expecting Boyzone???
No. It was our very own Zhivago in Shop Street, and they were all out to see Westlife. ³Who?² , I hear some of you cry!!
Brought to you by the same people who brought you Boyzone... (that would be Louis Walsh, and Boyzone front man, Ronan Keating), Westlife are Connaught¹s premier boyband--and are tipped to be Number One in the Charts next week!! Their Debut single, ³ Swear It Again², one of the strongest ballads you¹ll hear this side of the Millenium, is in the shops now. To promote it, Kian, Mark, and Shane (from Sligo) , along with Bryan and Nicky (from Dublin) paid Galway a visit last Saturday morning as part of their whirlwind Irish Radio, Tv, and P.A. tour.
Bravely, they stepped onto the impromptu stage, separated from a sea of hormone driven 6-16 year olds solely by a thick rope, and a couple of frustrated members of Zhivago staff! Westlife captivated the audience by singing two songs--their future single ³Let You Go², and their current, soon-to-be-smash-hit ³Swear it Again². This was followed by a signing session, where girls got their CDs signed with an illegible scrawl---AND, if they were lucky, a peck on the cheek!!!! The sight of smiling girls coming away flaunting their signed CDs and counting their kisses had to be seen to be believed!!!! Some were so emotional about the whole affair that they were crying their eyes out--one girl even broke down into a fit of tears right in front of the guys, and could only be consoled by getting into a group photo with the lads, ( who were amused and in awe of the effect they could have on some people!! )
Two hours later the guys had to be whipped away to the destination of their next appearance--Sligo, and to the next set of frenzied fans!!! The screams began to fade as the silver tour bus disappeared into the distance, bearing five beaming pop sensations of the future ready to take on Ireland, England, and The WORLD!-----------------------(® This may not be copied in ANY form without the authors permission)
