Jack & Jill! You loved the movie
now watch the bad imitation on TV! The biggest, juiciest slice on the
Jack & Jill gang is the stunning upset nomination of 7 foot tall uber-actress Kathryn Zenna for a prestigious
Genie Award for Best Supporting Actress!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Jack
& Jill enjoyed its Toronto release on Friday
March 5, 1999, at the Varsity Cinemas. Then it moved on to Vancouver, as well as the Sudbury Film Festival.
Rumour has it that John Kalangis' new screenplay is a hot item in some vaguely defined corner of the
universe, where it's garnered tremendous critical praise, not to mention offers of seven-figure deals from
someone.
Here's the
slide show.
Fall/Winter 1998
The
Toronto International Film Festival
screenings of Jack
& Jill were rousing rip-roaring
successes. Enthusiastic Torontonians were treated to 84 minutes of laughter,
excitement, pathos and freakish behaviour.
The
Jack & Jill gang
were media darlings. This came as something of a surprise since anyone
who's ever been to a press screening knows that they suffer from a lack
of really sophisticated and astute viewers. They don't, however, suffer
from a lack of overweight geeks eating white bread sandwiches out of giveaway
cooler bags.

Late Summer 1998
I know
you all enjoyed reading about Jack &
Jill in the "Made In Canada" section
of the June 1998 Tribute magazine at your local movie theatre. The
Toronto Star, on Wednesday July 29, 1998, printed an erotically charged
publicity shot from Jack & Jill
, along with this quote from John
Kalangis: "The intention is for people to come and have a good time...I
think it's cool in Canada to have a range of films, a widening of what
people expect." Later, in an emotional phone conversation with his mother,
John said: "I LOVE YOU MOM!"
On August
20, Jack & Jill had
its first big-screen "public" screening. The screening was an exclusive
event, for cast & crew, as well as a handful of film industry fatcats.
It was held at the Royal theatre, an independent repertory cinema in Toronto's
fashionable College Street West district. After the screening, there was
a fete at a nearby watering hole. Several people got wasted. Some did not.
You can
count on plenty more media coverage between now and the apocalypse. We'll
be keeping you posted on where to look for more information. Also,
we'll be printing the remarkably literate and incredibly charitable John
Harkness "review" on this page, for the world to enjoy.
Bonjour,
salutations, et bienvenue au Jack
& Jill Officieux Website. Bien
