The night of tricks and suprises

by Julie Peterson

Buffy set her bag down on the table and turned to Willow and Cordelia and said, “Tomorrow. My house at eight. Sound good?” The two girls nodded abruptly. Buffy looked at Cordelia with surprise as realized that Cordelia had agreed to spend the night at her house.

“What?” she said. “Since my old, so called friends dumped me because I’m dating Xander, I have nothing to do on Fridays anymore.”

“So,” Willow intervened, “What are we going to do?”

“Well,” Buffy said, “We’ll gossip about our boyfriends, within reason, we’ll eat food, junk food of course, go in the hot tub, play Truth or Dare, and all the other normal teenager stuff that we never get to do. We’ll have the time of our life tomorrow.”

***

Xander had been standing outside of the library doors, listening carefully to the words taking place before him. < So, Cordy, Willow, and Buffy are having a sleepover. Time to contact the significant others. > He rushed off in search of Oz, Willow’s significant other. He’d have to wait to get Angel, Buffy’s beau. He found Oz outside in the courtyard, strumming his guitar. “Hey, Oz.”

“Hey Xander,” he said reluctantly since he knew that Xander still didn’t really like him since he was dating Willow. “What’s up?” he asked, wondering what brought Xander out to look for him. “Oh, Buffy’s having Willow and Cordy over at her house tomorrow to spend the night. Now, I came to you because I thought it might be fun to spy on them, listen to what they say.”

“I don’t know Xander, isn’t that kinda invading their privacy?”

“They’ll be talking about us, Oz. About what they think of up. It’s an opportunity too good to pass up, man.”

Oz thought about it for a moment before giving in. “Ok. Is Angel going?”

“Yeah, as soon as I ask him to. Come on, let’s go call him.” Oz put his guitar away and went with Xander to the phone in the library. As soon as they were out of sight to see what was behind the tree, Willow crawled out from behind, having heard everything that was said and she was grinning. < So, we are going to have hidden crashers. Well, if it’s major gossip they want, it’s major gossip they’ll get. > Willow walked to the cafeteria, where Buffy and Cordelia had stationed themselves.

***

Willow made it to the cafeteria in record time. She sat down at the table.

“You guys will never believe what I just heard.”

“What?” Buffy and Cordelia said at the same time.

“Well, I was walking up to where Oz was sitting at the courtyard when Xander approached him. Since I’ve never seen Xander approach my boyfriend in a friendly manner, I hid behind the tree, wondering what he was going to talk to Oz about. Well, it turns out that Xander heard about the sleepover and that he has gathered Oz and Angel to spy on us during the sleepover, and I thought that we could beat them a their own game.”

“What do you mean?” Buffy asked.

“Well, we all have fantasies about our boyfriends, right?” Buffy and Cordelia both nodded. “Well, let’s say our deepest fantasies, while their watching. I don’t know about you, but if Oz knew what I fantasize about, let’s just say he’d pass out.” Buffy started laughing. “I knew there was a bad girl underneath that innocent girl façade. Well, go on with the plan.”

“Ok, for the next part of the plan, we all have to have two-piece swim suits.”

“Ok,” Cordelia said.

“Well, you all know that we are planning to go in the hot tub. Well, before we go, let’s put into a hat, a dare each of us wants one of the others to perform. Let’s rig it and each put down that we dare someone to go into the hot tub topless. That way, we’ll all have to in that way. The boys will be so shocked; they won’t know what to do. Of course, we’ll cover ourselves with towels, but the suspicion of the fact that the towel might slip will be there.” Buffy and Cordelia looked at Willow, shocked at the plan that she had came up with.

“Oh my god Will, that is such a good idea,” Buffy said.

“Yeah, I mean, they’ll be so shocked. This is going to be so fun!” Cordelia exclaimed.

Willow searched to room and found Xander and Oz walking over to them. “Shh, Xander and Oz are coming. Hi Oz,” she said as they were in earshot. Oz smiled at her and sat down next to her, wrapping an arm around her waist. Willow winked at Buffy and Cordelia and firmly kissed Oz. She pulled away from him and he had a kinda spellbound look on his face, but before he could respond, Xander, who was sitting next to Cordelia, said, “Oh please. Spare us the PDA’s.” Willow shot Xander an annoyed look before settling in for lunch.

** The Next Night**

Xander and Oz were at Angel’s apartment, getting ready for the night. Angel was pacing and Xander and Oz were on the couch.

“Ok Xander,” Angel started, “Since this is your plan, what are we going to do?”

“Well, technically, we’ll be on the roof the whole time and Deadboy, I know that isn’t a problem for you since your on her roof all the time, watching her.” Angel growled at Xander and said, “How many times do I have to tell you? Don’t call me that or I’ll be forced to rip your throat out and you know that I can.” Xander gulped and Oz started laughing. Xander glared at the werewolf and said, “Ya know, I have a stash of silver bullets right outside. Please excuse me while I go get them…”

“Ok, ok, ok, I’ll stop laughing. But you must admit, it was funny.” Xander rolled his eyes at Oz and said, “Do we have everything? Tape recorder? Blankets, since it gets cold outside?” The other two nodded and Xander said, “Well, lets get going.”

***

Willow and Cordelia were sitting on Buffy’s bed as Buffy was digging through her closet, looking for her bathing suit. “Come on. I know it’s here somewhere.” After much digging, she found a string bikini. She looked at the two pieces and threw the top back in the closet. She looked at the other two and shrugged. “I’m not going to need it.”

“Ok,” Willow said, “We have everything, right?” The other two nodded. “I have my lap-top with me, in case we need to say anything without saying it, I can type it.” Willow put her lap-top in her bag and said, “So, when’s the pizza getting here?”

“Oh in a few minutes,” Buffy said. She gave them the signal, letting them know that the boys were outside her window. Now it was time to act.

“Cool,” Willow said, “So, what do we want to do first?” Buffy pulled out movies that she had rented. Willow grabbed the movies, looked at them, and questioned one of her choices. “ ‘Austin Powers’?” Buffy glared at her and said, “Yeah. That movie’s hella funny. Besides, there’s a guy that looks like Oz.” Willow threw the movie at Buffy. She ducked and the movie landed on the bed. Willow looked thoughtful for a moment before saying, “Is he cute?” Buffy glared at Willow, as if saying, “He looks like Oz”. Willow caught that look and said, “Ok, well obviously he’s cute, since he looks like Oz.” They plugged in the movie and settled down to watch it.

***

An hour and a half later, they had finished the movie and were sitting in a circle. The boys were watching them from the window. It had taken a lot of effort not to laugh at the movie. “What do we do now?” Buffy said. The three girls thought for a moment before Willow’s face lit up. Xander turned to Oz and whispered, “She probably has some fun, Internet thing planned.” They turned to Willow who was about to speak. “Oh, oh, this is such a good idea.” “What?” Buffy said impatiently. Willow pulled out her laptop and turned it on. “See, I told you,” Xander said to Oz.

“Well,” Willow continued, “We all have our little daydreams in the middle of class and before we go to sleep about our boyfriends, right?” The two girls nodded slowly and the three guys looked like they were going to pass out. “Well, lets say them. Our most intimate ones. I mean, there’s no one else here to hear them. Your mom is gone and we’re alone. Well, what do you say?” Buffy and Cordelia looked at each other before simultaneously saying, “Lets go for it.”

“You guys go first though.”

“Why should we have to go first,” Cordelia whined.

“Because,” Willow began, “Mine is really long, so I’m going to type mine. It shouldn’t take me more then 20 minutes and I know that if I had to speak mine, I’d get all red ‘cause, God, this one I thought up is really good. It’s really hard to control myself. So, you guys go first.”

“Ok,” Cordelia said, “I’ll go first.” Cordelia launched off on this fantasy that she had of her and Xander and them on a beach in Hawaii. Willow had taken a break in her typing, only to put in Buffy’s Everclear CD. Then Buffy went on about this fantasy about her and Angel on Valentines Day at his apartment. They turned to Willow, who was smiling wickedly. She had finished a few seconds ago and was already finished spell-checking it. She handed it to Buffy and Cordelia, who sat down and started reading it. Xander and Angel were shocked at what their girlfriends had thought up, but the look on their faces as they read Willow’s fantasy about her and Oz were enough to prove that she wasn’t as innocent as they all thought. They finished reading and their jaws had dropped. They looked at Willow who was smiling at them widely. “So, what’d you think?”

Buffy took a deep breath and spoke, completely surprised at what went on in her friend’s head. “Whoa, Willow. You thought that up?” Willow nodded shyly. Buffy continued. “That has to be the best thing that I have ever read. When did you think this up?”

“Last night.” Right then, Willow’s favorite song on the Everclear CD came on called “White Men in Black Suits”. They got to the part in the song when it says, “Yeah, she takes a bus over to the northside of the city.”

Buffy said, “Did they just say, ‘Yeah she takes her breasts over to the northside of the city’?”

“No, they said “Yeah, she takes a bus over to the northside of the city,’ you pervert.” Buffy looked at Willow in shock. “Me, a pervert?” Buffy began, “What about you? You described positions I never even thought possible and some of them, I still don’t believe possible.” The three boys looked at each other, not believing what they just heard. Especially Oz. He could definitely not believe that this was his Willow. “Shut up,” she said, defending herself. Cordelia said, “You know what I like about this story? They way you used silk.” Willow simply shrugged and said, “Silk is cool. It’s pretty, it’s shiny, it feels great against your skin, and,” she leaned closer to the girls and smiled, “It feels good when you take it off.”

She pulled away, putting her laptop away. “And just how would you know?” Buffy asked, trying to get some gossip from her friend.

“I’m not telling,” she said slyly as she walked out of the room. “I’m going to the bathroom. I’ll be right back,” she called as soon as she was out of the room.

Buffy turned to Cordelia and said, “Do you think there’s something she’s hiding from us?” Cordelia looked at the doorway for a moment before answering. “I don’t think so. She would have told us by now, I think.”

“Yeah, that’s what I think. Oh well, if she is keeping something from us, we can’t get it out of her.” Willow walked back into the room and sat down next to Buffy. Buffy looked at Willow and said, “Are you hiding anything from us? ‘Cause if you are, I’d like to know and so would Cordy.”

“No, I’m not hiding anything.”

“Then why didn’t you answer my question about the silk thing?”

“I just wanted to put you guys on the edge. But, to answer you question, I don’t know how is feels to take silk off. Never tried it. You know why? I have no sex life. I don’t think any of us do? Am I right?”

“Yup,” Buffy said, “I also have no sex life. Mine is small to non-existent.”

“Me too. Xander never does anything,” Cordelia said.

“I wish I had more of a sex life. It would make my life more interesting,” Willow said. Buffy and Cordelia both nodded in agreement. Than, Buffy said, “Ok, enough talk about our sex lives, or lack thereof, let’s go into the hot tub. Did you all remember your bathing suits?” Willow and Cordelia nodded, pulling out their bathing suits, which were both two pieces, and their towels. “But,” Buffy started, “We first all have to dare someone to do something and it has to be the worst thing we can think of. Write them down and put them in a hat.” They did and they all smiled at each other because they all know what was going on. They all reached into the hat and pulled out a piece of paper and all of their faces fell as the opened their piece of paper. “I got mine back,” Cordelia whined.

“So did I,” Buffy said.

“And I did too…” Willow trailed off. “Wait. That is statistically impossible, for all of us to get ours back. You guys, hand me yours.” So they did and Willow looked shocked, keeping the three boys in suspense. She looked up and said, “They all say the same thing. This must be a hiccup of the Hellmouth ‘cause we all have to do it.” The three looked at each other and said, at the same time, “We have to go in the hot tub topless.” Willow picked up her swimsuit and said, “We’re all girls. It doesn’t matter, right?”

“Right,” Buffy said, picking up her bathing suit bottom and ran to the bathroom, but Willow had already beaten her to it. “Come on Cordelia. There’s one in my mom’s room. You change in the bathroom and I’ll go after you.” Meanwhile, the boys were still sitting on the roof, completely turned on by what was about to happen. They turned back to the window when they heard footsteps. It was Willow, who had her towel covering her chest. She rushed to her bag, well aware that there were three sets of eyes watching her every move. She pulled a hair tie out of her bag and started out of the room, trying to put her hair up, without success. With her back to the window, she let the towel drop to the floor. Xander and Angel had already moved to where they could see their girlfriends enter the hot tub, leaving Oz there to watch his girlfriend. After letting the towel drop to the floor, Willow bent her head down, gathering her hair into a ponytail. After securing it with the hair tie, she picked up her towel, covered herself again, and rushed downstairs, leaving Oz at the window, frozen at what he saw. Had he been at a different angle, he could have seen her… her… he wasn’t even going to go there. Snapping out of his daze, he quickly joined the others.

***

Willow rushed outside, with her towel safely covering her. She didn’t know what Buffy and Cordelia had planned for her when they were getting out of the hot tub. She climbed into the hot tub and shivered at the shock of the hot water against her skin, bare and covered. “Hi guys. What were you talking about?”

“Oh nothing,” Buffy said, smiling at Cordelia at the plan they had just made. They sat in there for about 20 minutes, discussing the plan since they knew that the boys couldn’t hear them. Buffy looked at her hands and said, “We should get out now. My hands are getting wrinkly.” Cordelia first climbed out, then Buffy, but before Willow could, Buffy grabbed her towel and ran, leaving Willow abandoned in the hot tub.

“Ok,” she muttered to herself, “I could either wait for them to bring me my towel, or I could run to the backyard door, covering myself, and pretend to be dead.” She thought about it for a moment and said, “I like the second idea better.”

The air outside the hot tub was cool, forcing Willow to cover herself anyway, even if the boys weren’t watching. She sat back down, gathering her courage. The three boys felt sorry for her, since they thought that she was going to wait for Buffy and Cordelia to give her back her towel. They were surprised to see Willow turn around, cover herself with her arms, hop out of the hot tub, run to the patio, and lay on the ground, pretending to be dead.

Buffy and Cordelia walked outside with their towels wrapped around them, laughing until they saw Willow. Buffy rushed to her side shouting, “Willow?! Willow!” Willow, at that moment, reached up, grabbed the towel, which sent her to the ground. When they got up, there was grass on their backs from the lawn and they were both holding the towel, using it as a wall between them, so no one could see their chests. They were circling each other, each on threatening to pull away the towel, but while both had a death grip on the towel, neither one could take it away. Cordelia was standing next to them, laughing hysterically. Buffy and Willow looked at each other, smiled and each reached over to grab Cordelia towel away from her. Cordelia, shocked at her sudden bareness, covered herself with her arms and chased them both into the house, leaving the boys gaping.

“Did I just see what I thought I saw?” Oz asked the rest of the group.

“I think so. I don’t know whether to be shocked or scared, but I know I’m turned on by what I just saw. Do you all agree with me?” Xander asked Angel and Oz, who both nodded.

“But,” Oz spoke up, “Your girlfriends aren’t as out going as mine. During that whole fantasy thing back up in the room, I was barely able to keep myself from passing out when they were talking about the silk thing. I think it’s time to re-assess my relationship with her. But, we need to get back to the window ‘cause it’s about 11 ‘o clock and they’ll be going to bed soon.” They quietly rushed back to the window and saw them getting ready for bed. Cordelia was rolling out her sleeping bag next to the closet and Willow was laying hers so that her feet were by the window. “Ok,” Xander said, “We’re probably not going to get much out of them. They’re probably tired from outside. Let’s come back in an hour and get Willow’s computer. I want to read her fantasy, since we got to hear Buffy’s and Cordelia’s.” The others nodded and they quietly left to rooftop, finally giving the girls their privacy.

***

An hour later after they had all fallen asleep, Angel snuck in and took Willow’s laptop. When he got back to his apartment, Oz and Xander were impatiently awaiting the arrival of him and the computer. As they read Willow’s fantasy, their reaction was worse then Buffy’s and Cordelia’s, they found out that Willow’s didn’t take place during a long period of time, but that it was full of incredible detail. Oz was the one who took the computer back to Buffy’s house. After he sat it down in it’s original place, he lingered over his girlfriend, watching her sleep. He listened to her soft, even breathing; he stroked her cheek as she slept, noting how relaxed her face was. He saw the silver cross that Buffy gave her resting on her chest, rising gently with her breathing. He thought, at that moment, that she looked like a princess. Brushing a few strands of hair out of her face, he kissed her gently on the lips, as if to wake her up from a deep sleep. When he pulled away, he saw the slight smile on her face and smiled as well. He felt her snuggle up closer to him, as if she was trying to make him stay. He knew that he had to go, ‘cause if he didn’t, he’d fall asleep, since watching Willow sleep made him so relaxed. He gently kissed her again and said, “I love you.”

“I love you, too,” she said, half-asleep, before turning over, her back to Oz. Oz wondered if she really heard him, or if she was dreaming about him. Either way, he knew that she loved him and this was her backhanded way of telling him consciously. He stood up and, taking one last look and Willow, climbed out the window. He never noticed that Buffy was awake and that she had seen the whole thing. < How sweet! He loves her! And she told him that she loved him! Things couldn’t be more perfect. I’ll have to tell Willow tomorrow… > she thought as the drifted off to sleep again.

***

Willow was the second one to wake up, but by barely. She smiled at Buffy, who was smiling back. “Good morning Buffy.”

“Hey, Will.” Willow looked over at Cordelia, who was still sleeping. “You know,” Willow said, “I think I actually like her, as a friend. She’s actually nice.”

“Yeah, me too.”

Willow turned to Buffy and said, “I had the strangest dream Buffy. I dreamt that Oz was here and he was watching me sleep and before he went away, he told me that he loved me and I told him that I loved him.”

She noticed that Buffy was smiling widely at her. “What? Why are you smiling at me?”

“Because your dream really happened, Will.”

“What?”

“He was here last night. He was watching you sleep and he before he left, he kissed you and told you that he loved you. You told him that you loved him, though you were half-asleep. It was so cute. You should have seen it.”

Willow was shocked. He loved her? Truly loved her? “I’ll talk to him tonight before we go out.”

“You’re going to tell him that you knew that he was over?”

“No! I’m going to tell him that I had a dream that made me realize that I love him.”

“Do you love him?”

“Yeah, I do. I mean, I think I do. If love is wanting to be with them at every moment of every day and missing them when they’re gone for 10 minutes, then yes, I love him. I have to tell him.”

“Are you sure?”

“Yeah, I’m sure.” At that moment, Cordelia woke up. “Hey guys. What I miss?”

“Nothing except Willow’s dream.”

“What was it about?”

“Her dream was about that Oz was watching her sleep and before he went away, he told her that he loved her and she told him that she loved him.”

“Why is that so special?”

“Because it really happened, Cordy,” Buffy said.

“And how would you know?” Cordelia asked her.

“Because I was awake. Anyway, what’d you dream about Cordy?”

“That Xander and I were in Paris and he also told me that he loved me and I also told him that I did too.”

“Have you really told each other that you guys love each other?” Willow asked.

“Yeah, we have,” she sighed.

“What was it like?” she asked again.

“It was,” she said, pausing for a moment, “really special.”

***

Willow paced nervously around her front hallway. Oz was due any moment and the longer it took him to get there, the greater her nervousness got. She jumped at the sound of the doorbell. She slowly went to answer it, opening the door to find Oz standing there. “Hey Willow.”

“Hi Oz.”

“Are you ready to go?”

“Um, can you come in? I need to talk to you.” < Uh-oh. > He thought, < Does she know that we were spying on them last night? > “Sure, I guess.”

She led him into her living room and sat down, motioning for him to also sit down, which he did. “Ok, I’m not sure where to start. This is new to me. Um, I had this dream last night. And in that dream, you told me that you loved me and I told you the same thing. Well, what I’m trying to say is…”

Oz looked at Willow questioningly. “What? What are you trying to say to me, Willow?” She looked away before she put her hand behind his neck and kissed him. She released him and holding him close to her, she said, “I love you.” Oz smiled at her and said, “I love you, too.” He kissed her and she kissed him back. They sat on Willow’s couch for a few minutes kissing before she pulled away and said, “Do we have to go out tonight? I want to stay here with you.”

“Yes, we have to go, but we can go to Lovers’ Lane and watch the stars. How does that sound?”

“That sounds nice. Let’s go.” And together, they walked out the door, forgetting about last night.
