Janeane Garofalo, comedienne, actress and dog owner, plays FBI Agent Dale Shelby in Clay Pigeons, also starring Joaquin Phoenix and Vince Vaughn. Sidewalk put her on the other side of the interrogation.
Are you happy with your performance in Clay Pigeons?
I thought I was horrible in it. But I have to say that. Can you imagine if you say, 'I thought I was really good?'
In one scene, your character, Shelby, gets pretty chummy with Vince Vaughn's Lester Long. Do you think she would have slept with him if she'd gotten the chance?
I wanted to show I was susceptible to him charming me, but I had to be pretty drunk to do it. But you know, Vince is
obviously you can see why anybody would want to sleep with him.
Can you explain that?
Vince's personality. It's that simple.
We were wondering if you had a position on Ally McBeal.
I don't like Ally McBeal. Until her skirts get longer, I don't buy it. And until her and Courtney Thorne-Smith stop dabbling in vaguely sexual behavior with each other, it doesn't empower me. It doesn't make me feel better to see an anorexic in a short skirt.
You seem to be dissatisfied with the status quo.
The scripts I get are the more vanilla ones. One more relationship movie and I'm going to shoot myself in the head. Women talking
about stuff
it's like, shut up. One more bad vibrator joke. I can't stand it.
How are your dogs?
I only have the one. The other two live with my friend in L.A. now because the big one and the two little ones, as they got older, didn't like each other anymore. People wanted the little ones, and I didn't want to get rid of the big one. He's my son. Hyphen wife.
