Cockermouth is a small market town on the edge of the Lake District in England. Its recorded history stretches back to the Romans, when a fort was built on the hill overlooking the present site of the town. Built at the junction of the Derwent and Cocker rivers (from which the town takes its name) and surrounded by lakeland fells on all sides, Cockermouth has rapidly become a tourist orientated town. The birthplace of William Wordsworth the poet, and hometown of Fletcher Christian, Fearon Fallows, John Dalton, and John Peel, Cockermouth has something to suit most people; art gallerys, museums, 2 brewerys, castle, churches, tea rooms, giftshops, and the lakes only a few minutes away.
