James Preston "Jimmy" CHAPLIN was born Jan 3, 1958 in Rockbridge County, Virginia. He was the son of Frank and Bernice (MOORE) CHAPLIN. He was the fourth of six child. Jimmy grew up in the Kerr's Creek area. His family did not have much money, but were kind and loving. Jimmy, like all adolescence had his run-ins with his family. He and his father may not have had the perfect relationship, but they did care about each other, which is what really matters. Jimmy was, as I have been told by family, and old friends from school, a very nice man. He was just a little rough around the edges. He liked to have fun. In 1978, Jimmy was in Texas with his brother Jerry. They were working oil fields. It was during this time that Jimmy met my Mother. Jimmy had to return to Lexington later that year because of circumstances beyond his control. He and Jenny, I am told, had planned to marry, but never did. When he called to check on the baby that he knew was coming, he was informed by Patty, Jenny's Mother, that Jenny had had an abortion, and that Jenny no longer wante to talk to him. Jimmy's life is sketchy, and I don't know much. I do know that he was a nice guy, and I regret not getting to know him. In 1987, Jimmy was a brickmason in Virginia Beach. On September 30, 1987 James Preston "Jimmy" Chaplin died. He was only 29 years old. The circumstances surrounding his death are sketchy, because no one wants to talk about it. All I really know is that there is a strong possibility that foul play was involved. I dedicate this page to my Father. I hope that this might mean something to someone else some day.
