Vahana Puja

The new car or vahana puja is done whenever someone purchases a new vehicle. The puja blesses the car to ensure safety, reliability, and remove any negative influences. I also said a prayer of my own to avoid hitting any animals crossing the road while driving.
The highlighted photo is of Radha's car driving over limes. Driving over limes helps to ward evil spirits away from the car and prevent accidents.

This is the first time my family has had this ritual performed at a temple. I blessed my other
cars myself as I did not have access to priest do to the complete ritual. I did a simple
ceremony chanting mantras and installed a Ganesha murthy or other deity in the car. We are
devotees of Sw Sivananda, so we always chant the "Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra" mantra to Siva whenever we get in the car and start a trip. This is a something I learned from the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centers as they always chant this mantra before beginning a voyage in a vehicle. This mantra helps one avoid accidents, injuries, and harm to others beings. The mantra below is in transliterated Sanskrit and English translation.
Om Tryambhakam Yajamahe
Sugandhim Pushtivardhanam
Urvarukamiva Bandhanan
Mrityor Mukshiya Maamritat
Om - We worship the three-eyed one (Lord Siva) who is fragrant and who nourishes well all beings; may He liberate us from death for the sake of Immortality even as a cucumber is severed from its bondage (to the creeper).
