Flags For the City

The American Legion is responsible for raising the money to put up the Flags all over town on the Holidays. For years there was not a Flag to be seen on the streets of Polo, Until the Legionaries decided to do something about it. With

hat in hand so to speak, they collected over $2,000 in a month. And bought
and installed 50 Flags from City Limit to City Limit on Both Main Hwy.s

But that was back in "95". Now they are starting to show a little wear and its time to hit the bricks again and see how much the citizens of Polo appreciate the Flags.

If you feel the need to donate you can send your contribution to:

Polo Memorial Post #557
P.O. Box 169
Polo, Mo. 64671

Or you can feed the white helmets at some of the stores in Polo. If all else fails you can find a Legionnaire with his hand out somewhere.

Boys State

The American Legion Boys State is a program for Juniors in High School.
The Boys that are chosen spend a week on the Mizou Campus at Warrensburg. During that week they learn to run their own State. First they elect all the State, City, & other Local Officials. They then choose Occupations for the rest, such as Media, Lawyers, Judges, and anything else it takes to make this country go round. This program employs the "learn by doing" method of teaching the basic principles of democracy.

Over thirty-five thousand of Missouri's finest students have participated in The Missouri Boys State program since 1938. Established by the Missouri American Legion it has distinguished itself as one of our nations finest youth programs.

American Legion Posts from all over the state sponsor these boys at a cost
of $250.00 a head, which is money well spent when you consider the fact that almost all of the past graduates have turned out to be leaders in the State and their respective communities.

Polo Memorial Post 557 along with the Cowgill Post were fortunate enough to sponsor all three of the candidates that showed up this year. Cowgill sent Brian Eugene Johnson and Polo sent Lester Dale Thompson and Blake Joel Phares. All from Polo High School.

1999 Polo Memorial Post 557 is again fortunate enough to sponsor both of the candidates that showed up Josh Rodriquez, and Mark Claypole. both of Polo High School.

2000 We are again able to send two boys Eric Mantlo and Jason Boruch.
