I bought a 95 1/2 ton short bed because of my heavy offroad use.
I am fairly pleased with my rig with the exception of the
braking system. My brakes don't howl as yours, but they have
a severe tendency to pull to the right. I have taken it in to
the dealer 6 times for repair, however it still pulls to the
right. I would say 80% of the time it's not too bad, but 20%
of the time it about takes me off the road! Not good. The dealer
stated that a lot of the trucks are experiencing this same
problem.

Jim,
I am sorry to hear about your unfortunate experience with your New Dodge
Ram. I am about to buy a used 1994 and I would like to know if this is a
recurring thing or if yours was a fluke, because I sure don't want to spent
the money if that is what's going to happen. Please E mail me back at:
CPHD29XXXXXXX.com and let me know what you think I should do.
Thanks,
Tyson Morris

We have had similar problems to yours both with our 95 Dodge and the =

and if you know of any recalls or other bulletins that have been =
released. Like you we spent 30,000 on a new truck and have had no end =
of problems. Thank you for any information you can give us.

Just read your message about Dodge Ram 4X4 brake problems and it "hit a
nerve." I have a 94 Ram 2500 4X4 and have experienced excessive brake wear
and noisy (i.e. squealing) brakes. I believe it may be associated with poor
design of the caliper and or piston on the front brakes. You mentioned that
you have or saw a technical bulletin on the problem. I would really
appreciate the number and a short gist of the bulletin if you would be so
kind as to send it to me.

I payed for.I want to complain to someone. this is my 1ST try.
I WILL GO INTO DETAIL AND SHOW THE BAD DEALER'S NAME WHEN I FIND THE BEST
WAY TO DO SO.

I'm very interested in the problems you have encountered with your
truck. I don't have a Dodge Ram yet but I have one on order. The latest
estimate is that it will be here sometime between August and October
as a 1997 model ( I ordered it in the first week of March ). I
ordered the Ram 1500 4x4 Club Cab with the short bed. I'm interested
in what made you decide to have the frame checked and what that kind
of thing costs.

Really like your column on the Dodge. Sorry you had so much trouble. Can
you please advise me if such a column exists for the Dodge Caravan.
I just bought a piece of crap. After 150 miles, 3 days, no odometer, no
speedometer, and no gear indicator. What a piece of shit!!!!!!!!
Good luck

It isn't just Dodge Rams ... apparently it is Dodge products in general
.. I'm particularly fond of the utility of the mini-vans ... I've owned
several and have had some significant problem with each one of them ...
I guess I should have learned by now, but the dealers always promised
that the big problem from last year was fixed ... they were not telling
the truth ... the last two vans have had serious transmission problems
.. I've been fighting the systemn for a while now at the dealer level
and I'm tired of it ... any suggestions on who to go to next

My husband purchased a new Dodge in January 1994, when they were first out.
No problems until last spring when Stew Hansen Dodge in Des Moines had the
truck for 37 days out of a 45 day period. The truck pulled to one side or
the other.
Stew Hansen was very good about giving us a van to drive. Then in August
they advised us that Dodge was buying us out of the truck and what did we
want. So we ordered a new Dodge Truck V-10 this time in the same color and
same accessories.
Then we were advised that the truck would be delayed because they had run
out of green paint for the 1996. So on Veterans Day of 1995 we were the
proud owners of the NEW truck with NO problems. Within 300 hundred miles
there was a noice in the
brakes. At 1,106 miles the truck started pulling to the right when trying
to stop. Repeat,
Repeat. They have now replaced the brakes, rotors, and calibers and now the
truck
pulls to the left. This truck has about 3,000 miles now and as of 5/14/96
we have not had the truck into the shop for repairs again. It doesn't pull
all the time and we are waiting for it to be more consistent. There should
be some place we could call to get these problems taken care of. The
Factory man has driven this new truck as well as
he did the old one and they advise me that occassionally they have had this
problem but not consistently. Now don't you think that it is rather strange
we have the same problem with both trucks?

I haven't had any trouble with my 1500 4x4, but was just curios has if
you have had much of a negative response.
Dern says:
I have had my 1996 Dodge Ram 15004x4 Sport for almost two months
now. It's been in the shop a total of 8 days and everything still
isn't right. The first problem was with the passenger side door
frame towards the front of the truck. It was badly bent and twisted
from the factory. They fixed it at their bodyshop under warranty.
After I had gotten the truck back there was this annoying noise
coming from the door they had just fixed. Plus the truck was very
dirty from the bodyshop. I was so disgusted I cleaned it myself. Now
as far as the door squeak goes. I took it in to the Dodge dealer
down the road from my house(not were I bought it from). This dealer
is closer by 20 minutes from were I had bought the truck. The
service guy said the doors were out of alignment. OK that worked for
two days. The squeak came back. Took it in again and they found a
piece of tape missing from the top of the door. Squeak Finally
cured. Also all along this time I had complained of a rough idle. I
never drove a truck before! The dealer said that this truck does it
because the engine runs so lean. Ok fine I can live with that. But
then the engine starts to get rpm flairs of 200-400 bursts of rpm.
This really is pissing me off. When the truck is in drive you can
see the tach move a little bit but when its in park and at idle it
goes nuts. The first time I took it to the dealer the truck didn't
even do it for them. The minute I got home of course it started
doing it. The reason the truck was doing this said the service guy
is that the truck needs about 6000 miles for its computer to adapt
to the fuel mixture and "find itself". That's bullshit. The minute
you start the truck it should find itself. The service guy said if
it happened again bring it right in and he will look at it. So I
took it in early part of last week and he finally saw the truck do
it. So he put a fax into Chrysler to see if there were any service
notes on this particular problem. Two days later I got a call back
from him saying Chrysler couldn't find anything. So now I take it in
tomorrow and they can have the truck to take readings off the engine
when this problem occurs and send those readings into Chrysler for
an answer. By the way the engine is 5.9L V8 360 evrything is still
stock on it. Accept I added a tonnoue cover and had the windows
tinted. The truck has 2500miles on it and I get 14.5-15.0 mpg a lot
better than what the sticker says.

The problem you have is accepting the fact that you got the one in
a million truck that has a bent frame. If you would think you could probably
figure out that the shaking of the mirrors and the honking brake pedal
probably both had something to do with the bent frame. If alot of dodge
were like yours they wouldn't be selling so well. Why dont you stop giving
dodge trucks a bad name and write a letter to dodge and they will probably
order you a new truck and give you a hellacious discount. Dodge trucks
out-tow chevy and ford, and any other truck. They have gobs of power to
spare, so quit whining and take my advice. You should quit giving everybody
the wrong idea about dodge.
