Barnaby Gaitley's family is very happy with him. During his
wild and wooly youth he was caught for breaking and entering. His family bought
his freedom by paying the victims for the items that had been stolen. Now
Barnaby is employed by a business who hires people out to elderly individuals
to do errands and musclework they now find difficult or impossible. Barnaby
doesn't earn a lot, but he finds the work satisfying. Barnaby is divorced and
has a daughter. His wife has custody. En route to one of his visitation trips
to his daughter, he meets a woman he suspects is his "angel" (Barnaby's family
believes that members of his family are occasionally visited and directed by
angels). Even Barnaby's family approve of her. Then Barnaby is accused of theft
and his life seems to come apart at the seems. The surprise ending is
delightful and rich.
