Officer Buckle likes to give talks on safety tips at schools in the
area where he serves as a police officer. He doesn't become a success
until he is teamed with a new partner named Gloria. Gloria is a trained
police dog. Unknown to Officer Buckle, Gloria performs delightful tricks
behind his back accentuating each safety tip. Officer Buckle and Gloria
are high in demand, but Officer Buckle learns the secret of his success
when a tv news camera reveals Glorias antics. Discouraged, Officer Buckle
sends Gloria to the next "talk" by herself. Gloria is as much a
flop as Officer Buckle was originally, and the accidents that occur
immediately afterwards highlight that fact. Officer Buckle learns that as
a team, he and Gloria are more capable of teaching safety in a fun way
that gets attention. The moral of the story is simply about teamwork and
using the different talent of individuals to enhance projects and reach a
common goal. The illustrations warmly enhance the story as Officer Buckle
and Gloria become a successful team.
