BACK TO MY HOMEPAGE:

The Shootist

This is the Duke's last film. It is sort of ironic it is about a man dying of cancer, Duke died of three years later. It stars Duke, Lauren Bacal, Jimmy Stewart, John Carradine, Ron Howard, Richard Boone, Harry Morgan, and Hugh O'Brien. Duke plays J. B. Brooksa dying gunman who is hounded by the press friendshipped by his landlady and he son. He tell Howard a greata line A I won't be wronged I won't be insulted I won't be laid a hand on. I don't do these things to other people and I require the same from them. He draws three evil men into one place and has aa fight with each one of them right in a row. He gets shot twice but is still aalive. Ron Howard walks in and warns Brooks but it is to late the bartendor shoots him in the back with a shotgun twice. Howard grabs the gun kills the bartendor. He looks at the gun in his hands and throws it. Brooks smiles and nods in aprovement. What a lot of people do not know is that the orignal ending is after the fight Howard walks in and the two shots from erlier were killing him but it was going to be a long death so Howard was suposed to shot him in the head. Duke said to director Don Seigal, "no he is not going to kill me it will end his career." The film is one of the best of his colection.
