Calling His mom's Bluff
When the "Big Trail" in 1930 John Wayne was able to invite two people. So he decided to invite his parents. By then his Parents were divorced. Now I don't know if you know this but Duke and his mom had a very bad relationship. When John Wayne was born he was a 13 pound baby. And his mom hated him for that she always though of him as someone who almost killed her. His mom once said to him after he had paid for her and her husband to take a trip around the world. "This is the wort trip i have ever been on, Thanks a lot." Anyway when he invited Clyde (his dad) and Molly(his mom) she refused to go with Clyde. She told him to uninvite Clyde and invite Robert(his brother). Duke put his foot down and said "no!" He univited his mom and invited his dads Wife. His mom was always bitter about that and never forgave him.

John Ford Stories
A few story I have heard about how badly John Ford could treat John Wayne. The first one was on the set of Rio Lobo John Ford had come to visit the set The just finished a scene and Howard Hawks yelled print it. Duke walked over to John Ford, Ford said did they print that. duke replied Yes sir. Ford said why it usually takes eighteen takes to get a good one from you Duke just said Yes sir. Another one I heard was on the set of They were expendable. John Wayne had just finished a scene and John Ford out of nowhere starts making fun of Wayne for not joining up durring the war. After Wayne had been humilitated he left. Robert Montgomery went over to Ford and said Pappy you know I care for you but if you ever do that to him again I will punch you in the face. And the last one I have heard is John Wayne went on a hunting trip to Monument Valley and told John Ford and said it was the perfect place for shooting films. About a week later at a party John Ford anounced that He had found the perfect place for a western. Now I think John Ford is one of the best director of all time and I don't know if these are true but it is something to ponder on.
