The Bald Eagle, as of
July 12, 1994, was taken off the endangered species list and placed on
the threatened list. This may be true, but this wonderful creature can
very easily be placed back on the endangered species list, with just a
little help from us.
Hatchlings require a lot of care and feeding from both the adult parents
before they can take care of themselves.
Eagles are noted for their strength and keen vision. Most eagles range
from 2 to 3 feet long, and have wing spans of about 6 feet.
Eagles prey on such small animals as fish, rodents, birds and snakes. They
have very harp eyesight and hunt while soring high in the air or watching
from a high perch.
Eagles live 25 to 30 years in a healthy environment, migrating in winter
to communal gathering places where food is plentiful and to breading grounds
in summer that will have the correct environment to produce future generations.
Eagles do not develop adult coloration until they are more than two years
old.
The quality of our environment is having a great effect on this species.
Large concentrations of chemicals are still being found in the tissues
of both young and adult bald eagles. We are the reason for their
near extinction; therefore, it is our responsibility, to give these elegant
creatures back their right to their land.
