some friends had planned to write up some kind of article or something for this page about Neil Gaiman and his work. they're really busy (as am i!), so i guess they've kind of forgotten. in the meantime, though, i'm inviting you to get involved. ya have any thoughts on Neil or his work or anything? e-mail me with any thoughts or article-type stuff you want to say about him, Sandman comics, etc. i'll add 'em to this page!
as you can see, i've added a bunch of more links & pictures. enjoy!
here are some pictures. some are from elsewhere on the web, some are my own scans from the books themselves.
i first read "Brief Lives" by Neil Gaiman. i did really like it, for the most part. after searching on the web, i've found that i like the illustrations from this book better than that of any others. i think Jill Thompson is just a wonderful artist, so that made all the difference! (not to say the others aren't good artists...i just like her work better.)
(the afore mentioned boys who know stuff about neil and Sandman comics have yet to write what they said they'd write. but eventually, maybe... anyway, so here's some more from me:) delirium is a character based loosely on tori amos, which could be why i like her so much! :o) i've added a pic of tori to this page, 'cause she's mentioned neil and the dream king in some of her songs. likewise, neil's made reference to tori in his comic books. [oh, i don't want to give you the wrong idea; these are NOT your average "little kid" comic books. these are basically comics for adults. they're more mature, and they're just cooler. really, take it seriously. it's pretty cool. just read it. i've only read "Brief Lives," but there are lots of other Sandman comics. i think that "Brief Lives" has the best-drawn characters and scenes (we thank you, Jill Thompson, for the especially wonderful drawings) compared to the others i've seen. if for no other reason, check it out just for the drawings! it really is cool.] so here's the deal with the Sandman comics, as written by Neil Gaiman in the introduction to "Brief Lives":
"What you need to know before you start: there are seven beings that aren't gods, who existed before before humanity dreamed of gods and will exist after the last god is dead. They are called The Endless. They are embodiments of (in order of age) Destiny, Death, Dream, Destruction, Desire, Despair, and Delirium."
well, after reading some more of the actual comics, i just like them even more! i've now been introduced to my second favorite character--goldie! the second i saw the little gargoyle, i just laughed at how cute he was! i had to scan some pix of that little guy. so here they are!
so i've finally decided to start my own collection instead of borrowing from friends. in the list below, the ones with red stars (*) are books i own.
here's a list of all the things i've been fortunate enough to read so far. (thanks, travis and kyle!) :o)
