12/19/98 YWCA, Cambridge, MA: Piebald, Six Going on Seven, Close Call, Joshua

Sorry, I am too busy to always review shows right after I go to them... This was a great Punk Rock Christmas... Way to go Shred. um, yeah.

Joshua wrapped up there tour of the country here at Camrbidge's own YWCA... They're on Doghouse Records and have a CDep out and a 7" as well as being on a few comps. They're from Orange County, New York. They play pretty good pop music. The only song I recognized was "Divide Us," which came off their EP. They're a pretty good band; not great, but worthwhile to check out.

Close Call didn't quite seem to fit the bill, but they were great. The sound system wasn't working too great and there was no energy in the room, but they played some stuff off their 7". They'd be a band to check out at a good ole hardcore show, rather than an emo show, ya know?

Six Going on Seven played next. They were the three wise men, complete with burger king hats and bathrobes. This was my first time I saw them, I know... tisk, tisk... Well, they were pretty darned good. I was very very very very impressed and also people started showing up during their set.

Piebald concluded this most excellent, totally radical, excuse my lame-ass attempts at using "cool" words. The drummer wore a Santa outfit, and the drums were surrounded by a great DIY sleigh... The bassist and guitarists were the reindeer. Nutty. I was one number away from winning a $50 gift certificate to Newbury Comics. Damn. They played "Our Very Own Employment Office", that song about the lifesaver...damn, i hate it when i don't have the cd next to me... They didn't play any old stuff, and didn't play "One hundred percent good." They played a new song, or maybe two. They sound like "When Life Hands You Lemons." They had energy. They played only like seven songs. They were good. That's it.
