Chapter 9
The Docks
~Lucky~

Lucky slowly walked back to Jake’s not in a rush to be alone with his thoughts. He felt something was going on between Liz and Jason no matter was Emily said. He constantly saw the looks that passed between them. And the far off expression Liz always seemed to have on her face; he learned a long time ago that whenever she got that look she was thinking of Jason. And it hurt that he could do nothing to take away those distant looks. But what hurt him more was when he would see Liz after spending a little time with Jason. She glowed and she for once looked happy and it saddened him that he was not the one making feel this way.

Girl- [slowly approaching Lucky from behind] So do you remember me or not?
Lucky- [smiling as he turned to face her] I wondered what happened to you.
Girl- That didn’t really answer my question.
Lucky- What question?
Girl- About whether or not you remember me…
Lucky- [smiling] Oh that question, well…
Girl- You don’t do you?
Lucky- I’m not saying that….it’s just…you’re not playing fair.
Girl- [smiling] Huh? I’m not playing fair…what are you talking about?
Lucky- I thought I would get at least a hint or something…
Girl- I never promised you that, but I did give one though.
Lucky- [dumbfounded] When?
Girl- The note…in the not I left you.
Lucky- There was a cue in there?
Girl- I guess it didn’t help then huh…
Lucky- [laughing] Uh…no
Girl- [laughing at Lucky’s expression] Sorry…
Lucky- Where do I know you from?
Girl- I can’t believe that you don’t remember me…we went to high school together.
Lucky- Impossible!!!
Girl- [smiling] Seriously…
Lucky- No…I would have remembered someone as beautiful as you…
Girl- [blushing] Thank you.
Lucky- [smiling gently] Oh my goodness…This is the first time in a long time I’ve seen someone blush. You must be used to hearing compliments.
Girl- [smiling softly] Well…yeah, but I never got one from you.
Lucky- Me…oh don’t tell me you had a crush on me in high school…
Girl- [laughing] Yeah…just a little one.
Lucky- Wow…you should have said something.
Girl- It wouldn’t have made much difference…
Lucky- Why would you say that?
Girl- You were too into Sarah Webber at that time to have noticed anyone else.
Lucky- [smirking] Oh well I guess you did know me then… [they both laugh]
Girl- It was ok though, we still managed to spend some time together.
Lucky- Ok now I’m really starting to feel bad. All I remember about that time was [he pauses as he smiles] ‘lusting’ [he continues] after Sarah or hanging with Elizabeth trying to keep her out of trouble…
Girl- That’s who you are with now right…Elizabeth Webber.
Lucky- [smiling slightly] Yes…
Girl- She’s a lucky woman.
Lucky- You oughta tell her that…
Girl- Trouble in paradise?
Lucky- [looking down] No…just me looking for trouble where there is none…
Girl- Don’t we all…
Lucky- [smiling as he looked up] So…you still haven’t told me your name.
Girl- [laughing] Ok, I’ll give you one last hint…
Lucky- Another hint huh?
Girl- [smiling] When you hung out with Sarah you also hung out with me…
Lucky- Huh?
Girl- [smiling] Lucky think…and by the way I gotta tell you I have always loved your name…
Lucky- Thanks…[trying to concentrate] think… [she laughs as his face distorts as he is in deep thought. Speaking slowly] The only person I remember hanging with me and Sarah was…[his face brightens with recognition]
Girl- [smiling] I take it you figured me out…
Lucky- [smiling widely as he grabs and hugs her] Deanna …oh my goodness how are you doing?
Deanna - [laughing as she returned his hug] Fine now.
Lucky- [slowly releasing her] Where did you go to? I know I didn’t go to Port Charles High senior year but you…uh…disappeared before then.
Deanna - Yeah my dad’s job transferred him and we had to move to California. I left before the end of school year.
Lucky- [smiling] Wow…you look great…not that you didn’t in school but…you know what I’m trying to say…
Deanna - [smiling] I know…when I got to California I lost the curly hair and sorta reinvented myself.
Lucky- [smiling as he glanced over her again] Well you did an amazing job. What…what are you doing back in Port Charles?
Deanna - [smiling, surprised and pleased by Lucky’s reaction to her transformation] Going to PCU. As much as I loved California I kinda missed the changing seasons…
Lucky- Really?
Deanna - Yeah I missed having to bundle up when the cold air off the water hits you…
Lucky- [smiling] Yeah…
Deanna- And I missed having snowball fights and making a snowman…
Lucky- [grinning] You make snowmen?
Deanna- [smiling] You know what I’m trying to say…
Lucky- [laughing as she began to blush again] Yeah I know…I was away for a while myself…but coming back to Port Charles was like…
Deanna- [smiling] Coming home…
Lucky- [smiling] Yeah…so how long you been back?
Deanna- Since the beginning of this semester. Last night was the first time I decided to go out…and of all people I run into…
Lucky- Well I’m glad you did…
Deanna- [smiling] So am I…
Lucky- [smiling in return amazed by her smile] So…uh….where were you headed?
Deanna- On my way home…finally finished up school for the day.
Lucky- You mind if I walk you home?
Deanna- Oh that’s ok…it’s not that far from here…
Lucky- [a slight smile on his lips] Doesn’t matter…I…I want to walk you home…make me feel better knowing I got you home safely.
Deanna- [smiling] Oh…uh…ok…
Lucky- Lead the way…

They slowly walk to Deanna’s apartment reconnecting and reminiscing about their high school days. It felt good to be with someone and not have to worry that you are doing something that may be hurting them. Lucky laughed like he hadn’t in a long time and he liked that. When they finally reached Deanna’s apartment lucky turned to her and hugged her one last time, which in itself surprised him more that it did her.

Lucky- [smiling] I’m glad we ran into each other again and you ‘finally’ decided to tell me who you were.
Deanna- [smiling] So am I. It was good talking to you Lucky, and you ‘finally’ figuring out who I was.
Lucky- [laughing] Next time I’ll know.
Deanna- [laughing] Ok…I’m gonna hold you to that.
Lucky- Ok you do that…would…would you like to have breakfast with me tomorrow…
Deanna- Well…
Lucky- Come on…I’ll introduce…reintroduce you to everyone.
Deanna- My own personal welcoming party huh?
Lucky- [smiling] Yeah I’ll be your personal host...tour guide…whatever you need.
Deanna- [smiling] Well since you are offering your services…I’d love to have breakfast you and your friends.
Lucky- [smiling] Good…I’ll…I’ll see you in the morning.
Deanna- [lightly kissing him on the cheek] I’m looking forward to it.

As Deanna disappeared into her apartment building Lucky lightly touched his cheek she just kissed. As much as he didn’t want to admit he could actually feel himself beginning to blush. How could a gentle kiss from someone other than Liz make him feel something? He slowly walked back to Jake’s momentarily forgetting Liz and Jason instead engulfed with a completely different set of thoughts on his mind.

Chapter 10
Cupid’s End
~Liz~

Elizabeth liked spending time with Jason. No matter what, he could always make her smile and she sorta liked that. He never pressured her to be one way; He just let her be. She smiled to herself because in a way she was secretly hoping that he could not find them a way home. She wasn’t ready to face the problems she sped away on Jason’s bike. Waiting on Jason to return she tried to recapture the excitement she had as she was steering the bike. Or maybe that excitement was from Jason’s arms wrapped tightly around her. She shook her head knowing that she should not be having those thoughts. She had to be loyal to Lucky. That was the only right thing to do no matter what feelings came to her when she was with Jason…or was it?

Man- Hey there pretty lady…don’t tell me you’re here eating alone.
Liz- No…uh…my friend just stopped outside for a second.
Man- Friend huh…what kind of friend?
Liz- My uh…boyfriend, and he’ll be back in any second.
Man- [smiling] Your boyfriend you say. Now why would he leave a pretty thing like you sitting here all alone?
Liz- He’ll be right back. [secretly praying this would be enough to make the man leave]
Man- Well…maybe I should sit here and keep you company until he comes back…Billy’s the name by the way.
Liz- Well Billy…that’s really not necessary. [Despite her protest Billy attempted to sit down.]
Billy- It’s no problem, no problem at all.
Liz- [grabbing at the chair as he tried to sit down] I…I told you…
Billy- Really I insist…
Jason- What’s going on here?
Billy- Billy’s the name…just trying to give you little lady some company while you were gone.
Liz- My ‘little lady’? [As Liz looked up at him with pleading eyes he did his best to stifle his laughter upon realizing Liz had her an unwelcome admirer]
Billy- Yeah she looked kinda lonely so I came over just in case she wanted some company.
[Stroking her hair Jason gently kisses the top of her head] Jason- Well Billy, I’m back now so…
Billy- [noticing Jason’s direct glare] Hey no problem…[Billy looked at Liz one last time and back to Jason] I’ll leave now…don’t wanna be the cause of any trouble between a couple.
Jason- [smiling as he looked down on Liz and gently taking her hand to gently squeeze] No problems here…we’re just fine. [Billy nods as he quickly leaves the table] Seems you have admirers every place we go. [He sits still holding her hand]
Liz- I’m sorry about that, he came over her and asked if I was alone. When he didn’t get the hint that I didn’t want any ‘company’…I told him you were my boyfriend.
Jason- [softly smiled after hearing Liz label him as her boyfriend] Your boyfriend?
Liz- [smiling] I’m sorry about that…
Jason- [smiling] That’s ok…I’ll play your boyfriend whenever you need me to. [They exchange a look and he quickly releases his hand when he realizes what he just said]
Liz- [smiling] I’m gonna hold you to that… [Jason smiles] Did…did you get through to someone?
Jason- [surprising himself as he lied] Yeah, I called Benny and he said he would send someone our way.
Liz- [trying to hide her disappointment] Oh…ok
Jason- [equally surprised by her reaction he gently touched her hand] It’ll take them some time to get here though, so you’re stuck with me a little while longer.
Liz- [softly smiling] Good… [they stare at each other until Liz suddenly feels shy and looks away] I…I’m gonna go and call Luc…I’m gonna call home and let them know I won’t be back home till late tonight so not to worry.

As Liz left to place her phone call he could not help but smile about Liz’s response to spending more time with him. As Jason is smiling he catches the gaze of a woman across the room. He smiles at her acknowledging her stare. As she smiled back and winked his smile wavered fearing that now it was his turn to have an unwanted admirer. Where was his ‘girlfriend’ when he needed her? He smiled again as thoughts of Elizabeth returned.

As Liz stood in the hallway she slowly shook her head. Why did she say Jason was her boyfriend? And why did she admit that she was happy they would be spending more time together as they waited for Benny to send someone for them? And more importantly why did her heart attempt to jump from her heart when Jason lips grazed her forehead? And why did her pulse betray her as Jason gently held her hand? She was alive around Jason and it took all her control to gather herself. Maybe talking to Lucky would snap her out of this stupor and keep her from blurting out the things she so badly wanted to say to Jason. As she slowly dialed his number she thought long and hard about what she was gonna say to him. Listening as the phone slowly rang Liz suddenly lost all the nerves she had built up to call him. She heard Lucky’s soft voice answer the phone as she quickly hung up. The last thing she wanted to deal with was Lucky’s complaints over her spending so much time with Jason. Although he was getting better the last thing she wanted to do was push him into questioning what was going on between her and Jason. She decided the best thing to do would to explain everything once she returned home. For now she would savor the time she and Jason had. She waited several minutes before she returned so Jason would think she had indeed called home. As she walked to the table she noticed a strange look on Jason’s face. There was no way he could know she did not call home so it had to be something else. As she reached the table she softly asked as she sat down…

Liz- What’s wrong?
Jason- [he smiles sheepishly as he leaned forward and whispered] I think that umm…I just might need to be your boyfriend after all.
Liz- Huh?
Jason- [still smiling] Don’t look now but it uh seems like I’m the one with the admirer now.
Liz- [smiling] Really…[leaning closer] where is she…I mean which one is she?
Jason- Over by the counter…she’s still looking this way.

Liz slowly turned to see who was trying to take away some of the little time she and Jason had together. Her heart sank as she noticed the woman who still openly stared at Jason even while Liz sat beside him. There was no way Liz could ever compete with Jason’s admirer, even in her best days. His admirer was flawless.

Liz- [speaking softly as she turned to look at Jason] She’s pretty…
Jason- If you say so…[he leans in closer] now you see why I need you to be my ‘girlfriend’.
Liz- [she scrunched her nose as she softly asked] Why?
Jason- So she won’t get any ideas…Besides she’s about the last thing I’m looking for.
Liz- [confused] Don’t you think she’s pretty?
Jason- Well…[pausing to look at his smiling admirer] ok…I guess so…but then again she’s not exactly my type.
Liz- You guess…you two would look perfect together!
Jason- Why would you say that?
Liz- Look at her…she’s beautiful and you, you’re…[pausing]
Jason- [curious to hear what Elizabeth thought of him] I’m what?
Liz-[smiling] Extremely handsome…[she pauses realizing what she just said]
Jason- [softly smiling] I’m extremely handsome huh?

The most Liz could do was offer a weak smile as she looked away trying to cover her embarrassment Jason tenderly touched her face as he turned her face back so that they could look at one another.

Jason- [smiling] Thank you for the compliment…but like I said she’s not exactly my type.
Liz- [nervously asking] Then what exactly is your type?
Jason- [smiling] Someone who has the ability to see the wind as same as me. [Liz heart quickens as she gazed into Jason’s piercing eyes and momentarily sees what he feels for her. as he continues to smile he leans forward again to ask] So are you gonna help me?
Liz- What…what do you want me to do?
Jason- [smiling] I don’t know…you’re the girlfriend. Do something that tells her that she does not have with me. [As Jason was talking someone requested a dance song from the jukebox and several couples rushed to the dancefloor]
Liz- Do…do you wanna dance?
Jason- [softly smiling] Not really….but if that’s what my girlfriend wants to do…

He gently takes her hand in his and slowly leads her to the dancefloor.
