Wurz could justifiably claim to be the find of the 1997 season. Having started the championship as test driver for Benetton, he was asked to deputise for the sick Gerhard Berger and made his debut in Canada, attracting attention with his qualifying times. He went on to third at the British Grand Prix and despite only starting three races, finished 14th overall in the Drivers' Championship. In 1998 he finished 7th in the overall classification, a point ahead of team mate Fisichella. Exceptionally tall amongst drivers, the young Austrian will be looking to build on his exciting start in the sport. Definitely one to watch. 1998 was 4th in five separate races, without ever gracing the podium. This consistency is enough to give him a share of 7th in the table. 1997 1997 Begins the season as test driver for Benetton but makes his F1 debut in Canada.
