FAN FICTION ~ You took the Words right out of my mouth! By Kimberly Saunig

This fanfic was written as if it were made to follow the episode "KING OF HEARTS" where Nick proposes to Zoe Hamilton then stuffs it up.

The scene is set early morning where only Maggie and P.J are at the station as they are the first one's in. They are both in P.J's sharing a kiss when the reception bell rings. They pull apart and then open the door and walk out.

Maggie: Good morning, can we help you at all?

Person: Yes, my family and I have just returned from our holiday and found our house completely trashed, there is graffiti on our walls and windows broken and many things have been stolen.

Maggie: Alright then sir can I take your name and address please,

Person: Well my name is Cameron Hesfod, and I live at 22 Bishop Pl.

Maggie: Okay then someone will be there as soon as possible.

Cameron: Thankyou Constable.

Cameron leaves the reception area and returns to his car outside.

P.J: Well we better call Cooper and McKinley in so as we can get out there.

Maggie: Right, I'll give Dash a call at home and you can give Adam a call.

P.J retreats to his office and Maggie to her desk where they make the calls.

Maggie: Hi Dash, it's Maggie here, we need you and Adam to get to the station A.S.A.P cause P.J and I have to make our way to a robbery down at Bishop Pl…..okay that would be great….yep we'll see you soon….Bye

Maggie hangs up the phone and walks to the P.J's office.

Maggie: Did you get onto Adam?

P.J: Yeah, he'll be here in 15 min. What about you?

Maggie: Yes same with Dash…..now where were we before we were interrupted?

She leans forward to continue their kiss…

Tom: P.J are you here yet?

Maggie and P.J quickly pull apart and move to separate chairs.

P.J: Yes were in here boss.

Tom walks into P.J's office.

Tom: Oh that's right you both had early shift this morning, anyway any thing come up.

Maggie: Oh yes boss we had a man come in about 10 minutes ago stating that his house has been sabotaged. We called Dash and Adam and they should be here in about 5 minutes.

Tom: Good, well since I am here you to better be off, now don't be out to long we need you here at the station.

P.J: Yes alright then Boss.

P.J and Maggie grab their coats and the car keys and make there way to the car. On the way they run in to Dash walking out.

Dash: Hey I thought you guys needed me to be here before you could leave.

Maggie: Yeah, well the Boss just got in then so we thought we could leave.

Dash: On you guys, you dragged me out of my nice warm bed an hour early for nothing!! P.J: Sorry, but that's the way life is, come on Mags we better get going.

They get in to the car and drive over to the Hesfod residence.

P.J: Geez, that guy was right, his house is a disaster.

He says as the drive up the driveway.

Maggie: Yeah your right, who could do such a thing!

They both get out of the car and make their way to the front door. Just as Maggie is about to call out a young boy comes running towards the door, crying an spluttering all over the place.

Boy: Are you a policeman?

P.J: Yes, I am. What's the matter?

Boy: A big man just came in with a gun and he shot my Mummy and Daddy.

Maggie: I want you to go and get into that car over there and lock the doors, and don't open them for anyone but us. Okay?

Boy: Okay, I won't.

The young boy walks to the car and gets in then locks the doors. Maggie and P.J draw out their guns and slowly make their way into the house.

Maggie: Don't you think we should call for backup P.J?

P.J: I suppose we should have but it is too late now.

They carefully walk into what seems to be the lounge room and find 2 bodies on the ground. Both Maggie and P.J walk towards the unmoving bodies and check for a pulse.

Maggie: This guy has a pulse, but just barely. We better call the ambo's.

P.J: Okay, she has got a pulse as well. I will go and call them. You radio the station.

P.J races out of the room to call the ambo's whilst Maggie uses the radio to contact the station.

Maggie: 208 to Mt Thomas station

Tom: Receiving…..

Maggie: Yeah Boss we have 2 critically injured victims here calling for backup….

Tom: On their way….

P.J comes back in just as Maggie finishes talking to Dash at the station.

P.J: I called them and they are on their way.

Maggie: I called for backup and they should be here soon. We had better check out the back of the house.

P.J: Okay, lets go.

Maggie and P.J head towards the backdoor but on the way they pass a room and Maggie pokes her head in cautiously and spots a man on the floor with his head in his hands.

Maggie: Get up, put your hands behind your back.

P.J who was a little way infront turns around and quickly backs her up.

P.J: You have the right to remain silent, anything you say or do could be held against you in the court of law. Is that understood?

The man has slowly gotten up and before anyone knew it he had drawn out his gun.

Man: Don't move, put down your guns or I will shoot!

P.J instantly jumped infront of Maggie to protect her, but the man shot straight ahead and it hit P.J just underneath his heart.

Maggie screamed as P.J fell to the ground.

The man tried to run past but Maggie pulled out her gun and shot him in the leg - twice. He fell to the ground and becomes unconscious from shock.

Maggie: Oh my gosh P.J, P.J can you here me?

She says as she falls to the ground beside him. They are both covered in blood.

P.J is motionless. Maggie pulls out her radio and gets ready to call the station when she hears running footsteps.

Maggie: Dash, Adam is that you? Quick P.J has been shot.

Nick, Adam and Dash come running in and Adam takes care of the man. Dash gets on the radio as Tom's voice comes bellowing out.

Tom: Mt Thomas Station to 208 what is going on there?

Nick is just staring at the way Maggie is crying and cradling P.J. It is then that he realizes what has been going on between the two of them and what should be happening between him and Zoe.

Just then the ambo's siren comes blaring up the street. A couple of seconds later three emergency men come running in.

Maggie: Oh no, Dash I forgot the little boy in the car, you better go take care of him he is probably scared to death.

She said in between sobs. Dash: Yeah alright then Maggie.

The ambo's take the couple to the cars and then come back for P.J.

Maggie: Can I please ride with him?

Ambo's: I am sorry miss, but only if your family.

Maggie: Well we are seeing each other.

There is a stunned gasp from Adam's mouth. But nobody else seem's to notice.

Ambo's: Well I suppose so miss.

They all get into their right cars and head off.

AT THE HOSPITAL

P.J is in intensive care and Maggie, Adam, Nick and Dash are sitting outside his room in a sitting area. Adam breaks the silence.

Adam: So Maggie I know this is a bad time, but if you don't mind me asking how long have you and P.J been seeing each other.

Maggie: No it's alright, it has been about 3 months now.

Just as she finishes her sentence Zoe Hamilton walks in.

Zoe: Well guys, I have good news. P.J is going to be alright it wasn't a really deep wound and he has come out of unconsciousness now. He should be out of hospital in about 4 days.

Meanwhile the whole time Nick is just looking at Zoe and when she finishes she turns to look at him.

Nick: Uh Zoe can I just see you for a minute.

Zoe: Yeah I don't see why not. Oh and Maggie if you want you can go in and see P.J.

Nick gets up and follows Zoe out of the room and Maggie gets up and walks into P.J's room.

Zoe: So what's on your mind Nick.

Nick: Look Zoe I am really sorry I came out and said what I said the other day. I have been in agony the past few days. You know how much I love you.

He starts to look like he is going to break down crying. He has a pleading look on his face.

Zoe: I know you love me and I love you to. I have been so angry at myself because of the way I exploded at you, and if your offer still applies then I say YES.

They both break out in smiles and Nick leans forward for a kiss. He pulls out the rind and slips it on her finger.

Zoe: Have you been carrying that around with you?

Nick: Yeah, I didn't want to let it out of my sight.

Meanwhile Maggie is just entering P.J's room.

Maggie: P.J are you awake?

P.J: yeah I am Mags.

He says in a really croaky worn out voice.

Maggie: Oh P.J I thought I lost you. You saved my life, how can I ever repay you?

P.J: Oh Mags you don't have to repay me for anything. It was my pleasure.

He says with a bit of a giggle.

Maggie: Oh P.J you scared me so much.

She says as she breaks down crying.

P.J: Hey Mags, it's okay come here. I am alright now. Don't cry.

Maggie goes and lies down next to him and they start to kiss.

She lifts her head to look down at him and says,

Maggie: P.J I know this is kind of sudden but will you um will you marry me?

P.J grabs her and kissed her again and says,

P.J: You took the words right out of my mouth. Yes!

They kiss again.
