His Mercy

I was lost in sin;
From Him I had strayed,
Everyday He cried,
Wishing I had stayed.

He tried calling me;
Shouting in my ear!
But sin had made me deaf,
So Him I could not hear.

He also showed Himself,
He stood in front of me!
But sin had made me blind,
So Him I could not see.

Once he touched my heart,
And tried, my life, to heal!
But sin had made me numb,
His Love I could not feel!

He gave so many paths,
That all led back to Him,
But I chose my own,
And avoided them.

But finally one day,
I opened up my eyes,
And saw Him standing there,
Oppressed by mournful cries.

I said, 'Lord, what is wrong?
Why are you so sad?
I've returned to you,
Shouldn't you be glad?"

He said, "My child, these tears,
It seems you can't discern,
They're tears of happiness,
Because you did return.

I've tried to get you back,
With many signs I've shown,
But now I am so proud,
You came back on your own."

I said, "My Lord, I'm sorry,
I strayed so far away,"
He said, "My son don't worry,
You're forgiven on this day!"

Then I, myself, began to cry,
As He looked at me,
I said, "My Lord, I thank you much,
For your kind mercy."

Then He said, "I love you child,
But now I have to go,
I must return to where I've been,
Someplace that you know."

I said, "My Lord, where is that?"
He said, "Inside your heart,
I have been there all along."
And then He did depart.
