This is a relatively slow period of knitting and sewing, but I have a few additions. Starting with one who is currently named "Sophia Loren". She is my eighth doll. She's a personal favorite.
I've completed Kaleidescope Shawl number 3. This one is for my mom. This shawl is made using five shades of Koigu KPPPM (Koigu Painter's Palette Premium), my favorite yarn. It's 100% wool and hand-painted. Canadian, I might add. Already I've got the yarn for number 4 because I just love knitting this pattern with this wool.
I remembered to measure the shawl before and after blocking, so here's the before. It measures in at about 33 inches on the diagonal edge. The after is about 41 inches. You can see the colors better in this picture than the previous one, but they are most definitely best seen in real life.
And I've just completed another "Purl Scarf", named by the designers at Purl, in Soho. This one was made using Manos, Koigu and ROWAN Kidsilk Haze mohair. I experimented by using the Koigu. The story here is that I'd loved the orchid shade of Manos and tried dozens of combinations using turquoise, mint, green, other shades of pink and purple, but nothing was just right. Independently, I'd fallen for this Koigui yarn with its black cherry shades and planned to make socks. By accident they found one another, and the warmer primrose-ish mohair became the third.
Here's the close up of the three individual fibers. If I were sewing instead of knitting, I would never put these together. But I'm creating a new fiber instead of "matching", so I've discovered I prefer not to have the individual yarns match.
Well now wait just a minute. I almost forgot; here's the Purl Scarf I completed this fall. Colorwise this one is a bit of a stretch, but I do love green and magenta/fuchsia. This scarf is made using a dark violet/magenta Manos, a brighter shade of ROWAN Kidsilk Haze, and a thicker mohair in apple green. It's a fun one to wear, and very soft! These Purl scarves measure about 104" before fringe, and about 118" with fringe. They're very long, which is part of the fun of wearing them. Just don't wear one in a convertible.
I've got lots more in the works, but for now I'm working on my teaching portfolio. Thanks again for visiting!
