Sewing Gallery

Welcome to my Sewing Gallery. In the past handful of years, I've sewn hundreds of projects from creative stitching and design to straight-line curtains; sheer wedding dresses, swimsuits, fleeces, upholstery, and more. It's all been fun. Below are some projects I'd like to share with you. If you have trouble loading this file because of its size, please let me know and I'll split it into smaller files.

My good friends Karen and Gregg asked me to make their wedding clothing. We all worked on Karen's many-layered dress, her shawl, and Gregg's shirt. Bravo to Gregg, he did the hems!

Although I spent hours perfecting the neckline, it didn't show...

...because of Karen's beautiful hair! The bridal couple!

I made this camera bag for Francoise using vintage Japanese obi silk with gold and silver flowers. I embroidered the small flowers on the strap to match the large ones on the bag.

Paul wanted two pillows for his mother with Santa playing the sax. (Paul owns Miller's Sax Shop.) Over 100 appliqued pieces in these pillows!

Mom received a table runner for her birthday, made to her specifications.

Al has a beloved family chair Mom and he wanted recovered. It broke my heart to remove the previous time-honored stitches and cover he had made himself.

I had planned to make these cushions in teal fabric and gold trim, which I'd gotten for a steal, but they seemed too plain, so I embroidered the carousel ponies to match the wooden one over our fireplace. (Don't forget Mary Poppins rides a carousel horse!)

Lavender-filled sachets.

This little scrap quilt was fun and even has hand-dyed fabric from Africa and bits of Anna's skirts!

Here's a crazy quilt for a little girl named Romy. It has my favorite colors!

Anna's doll Katya received a quilt, pillows, a homemade four-poster bed, and her dress on Anna's third birthday.

This baby quilt was made for Francoise's Carolina. I scanned her birth announcement and then converted it to embroidery and it became my label.

This Twirly Skirt was also for Carolina. I've set a few girls twirling!

Bags are fun and fast. Here's one batch.

I made five sets of jammies for five little girls last summer. Here are two sets and four packages.

Last Christmas six little girls received an apron package similar to this one. Mom got one too, in more grown up colors.

The year before, I made this sweet pinafore with embroidered designs on front and back. Fortunately, Anna was able to wear it again this year. With her hair in braids, several people thought she looked like a character from one of Jan Brett's scandinavian stories.

This apron was made for my teenage niece, Jamie.

Jean shorts with pink thread -- for Anna of course! I made matching capris using lavender thread, sans back pockets, for heaven's sake!

I called this Anna's "Mad Max" dress, and doing the blanket stitch by hand reminded me of a skirt I made in the seventies. I found the little flower buttons and tights in Sweden.

Fleece projects are a natural in Vermont. I made this one for myself after making them for everyone else!

Chad custom-designed this fleece for skiing. The label is made of ultrasuede with his initials.

Anna's been told she looks like Little Pink Riding Hood in this poncho.

I do sew for myself sometimes, and I made this dress for this summer. If only it would get warm!

This dress reminds me of pink souffle. I wanted to make it in a lilac floral print. Anna wanted pink eyelet. I let her decide; it was her birthday dress. I still have the lilac fabric.

You've seen "Hello Kitty?" This is my knock-off embroidery on a nightie with matching capris. I scanned a Hello Kitty image, then converted it to embroidery and chose my own colors. (Outfit designed by Anna and me.)

I saw this pink fur at Ben Franklin in Middlebury when Anna was 2 and I couldn't resist. I made this coat and hat. For the record, I made mine several months before I saw a similar coat in the stores. The jumper fabric is from NYC and has a dark green corduroy background with pink flowers and snaps.

The snow-white flannel appealed to me, but Anna felt like magic when she first put it on.
