Chapter 9 ~ I Love You too

Kirstie walks out to the back porch, where Zac is laying on a swing, looking up at the stars. "Beautiful night." She says walking over to him. He smiles and sits up, making room for her. She sits down and leans her head back, looking up. Zac stares at her, with a very depressed look. "What's the matter?" She asks, facing him.

"Oh, it's nothing." He leans back and puts his arm around her. She doesn't think anything of it. They've been playing around a lot like that. But nothing serious.

"Are you sure? You seem sad." He looks back at her.

"Okay you want the truth?" He says bluntly.

"Yes, I do."

"I've never felt this way about anyone my whole life. You probably think I'm too young to know what love is... but I don't think so. Love is that feeling I get when I look at you. When you just push me away playfully. When you tickle me. When you hit me with a pillow. It's how I feel everytime I look in your eyes. I love you."

Woah. Kirstie sits there silently for a moment, completely shocked. "Um, Zac..." She knows she feels the same, but is afraid to tell him.

"Tell me. Tell me if you hate me, tell me..." He voiced trailed off.

"I don't hate you. I, I like you, a lot." She says, trying to round up some courage.

"But just as a friend, right?" Zac turned away and stared at the ground.

She wanted to put her arm around him. To hug him. She wanted to kiss him. She put her hand on the side of his face, turned it toward her, and... he got up and ran in the house. Damnit. I guess I should have said something sooner. She stands up, looks up to the second floor open window, and hears a door slam. I guess that was Zac.

"What is wrong with you?!?" Taylor yells to Zac as he stomped in the room and layed on his bed.

Ike Then walks in the room with a smile on his face. "Where's Kirstie?"

Tay just laughs. "Why? Do you want to go flirt some more?" Ike frowns as Tay keeps laughing.

"What's wrong with Zac?" Ike asks staring down at him. Zac lays there motionless, wanting to get up and run out of the room, but he doesn't want his brothers to see his face. "Zac? Hey?" Ike walks over to him.

"Lets find out. You get his legs and I'll get his arms, and we can flip him over." Tay says. They both grab him as Zac starts to struggle.

"Get off me! Leave me alone!" He yells, trying to break free of their tight hold. They turn him over to find his face wet with tears. He runs, still crying, out of their room and into the bathroom.

Tay and Ike both stand speechless for a minute. Then Tay turns to Ike, "I'll go talk to him." With that Tay walks out of the room. "Zac?" Tay knocks on the bathroom door. When Zac doesn't answer, he turns the knob, and finding it unlocked, walks on in.

Zac is sitting on the floor in the corner, his hands covering his face. "Just go away." He whispers. Tay, feeling terrible for him, walks beside him and kneels down.

"Tell me what's wrong. Maybe I can help."

Zac looks up at him, pushing the hair that has fell out of his ponytail behind his ears. "You can't help. It's... Just go away." He says and lays his head back down.

Knowing his brother might throw a little fit if he doesn't leave now, Tay stands up and walks to the door. "If you ever wanna talk, I'll always listen." And he walks out the door.

Taylor walks down the hall thinking about what in the world could be wrong with Zac, and passes Kirstie's room. He notices her laying on the bed, staring up at the ceiling. "You don't look too happy either." He walks in, and sits beside her on the bed.

"I guess you're talking about Zac." She says, not turning to look at him.

"Uh oh."

"Uh oh what?" Kirstie sits up and scoots over beside Taylor.

Tay falls back on the bed, and looks up at the small crack in the ceiling Kirstie must have been staring at. "Well, if Zac's sad, and you're sad, and you know why Zac is sad before everyone else, then you're both probably sad for the kinda same reason, right?"

"Well, yeah." She falls back beside him and turns to him. "Can you keep a secret?"

"Of course."

"I fell totally in love with Zac that day at the mall. But, I didn't know it was Zac I was in love with. Then I found out it was him, and because he so much younger than me, I just pushed all those feelings to the back of my mind, but they never really disapeared." Tay wiped away the tear that ran down her face. "And a few minutes ago, I went outside and sat with him. And he just blurted out how much he loved me. Then before I could say anything, he just assumed I didn't like him, so he got up and ran off."

Taylor took her hand and sat up, pulling her with him. "You should go talk to him."

"But what am I going to do? I mean, about..."

"Let your heart lead the way." He smiled. "I'm going downstairs to get a snack before a hit the sack." He stood up and headed for the door.

"Thanks Tay, you're a sweetheart."

Kirstie hopped up, and walked out of her room to go look for Zac. She peeped in their room and saw him alone, laying on his back on his bed with his eyes closed. I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to hurt you She thought, and walked over beside him and sat down.

"Go away Taylor." He said, without opening his eyes.

Kirstie bent over and slowly kissed his soft lips. "I love you too." She whispered.

Zac quickly opened his eyes and looked at her. For once, he couldn't think of anything to say.

"I wanted to tell you outside. But you ran off too quick." She said still whispering.

He sat up beside her and stared into her eyes. He smiled a little and his face turned red. Kirstie smiled too.

"Zac?" Taylor said, walking into the room. "Uh, nevermind." He quickly said when he saw Kirstie was with him.

Kirstie turned back to Zac, "I'm going to bed." She started to get up but Zac pulled her back down.

"Sweet dreams." He said, and kissed her on the cheek.
