WILLIAM POWELL and MYRNA LOY

The most popular married couple in history.

From 1934 to 1947 they made a total of 14 movies. They're most famous for The Thin Man movies.
They are one of my favorite couples of all time! While William Powell isn't a beefcake in my opinion he's got personality to more than make up for it. Loy is incredibly beautiful, sassy and his equal. They both got noticed in a movie called Manhattan Melodrama with Clark Gable. The chemistry between the two characters was noticed by a director named Woody Van Dyke.
They each started making totally different movies than the ones they would later be known for. Powell played the cheesy silent film villian while Loy was some exotic sometimes part oriental vamp. Loy's image as a vamp caused some trouble, Myer didn't think the public would go for Loy in that type of role. He gave Van Dyke a three week limit to finish the movie! Somehow shooting was finished in 16 days. The movie was a smash hit. Nick and Nora Charles made five sequals.
They were never involved with each other in real life.
