In their first film Dance, Fools, Dance Crawford was already a major star and Gable was just a beginner. Gable's a villian who get's Crawfords' brother to kill a reporter. Gable is totally convincing as a villian.
Their second film Laughing Sinners was a bomb, rightfully so.......... it sucked. Gable as a Salvation Army do gooder?!?! Crawford trying to kill herself over a worthless boyfriend?!?! WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?
Their best film together was Possessed. She's a workingclass wannabe and he's a rich guy who puts her up as his mistress and gives her what she wants. She realizes she doesn't want jewels or furs, she wants more than he's able to give. This movie very good.
This onscreen couple did have an affair offscreen. According to Crawford it went on for a period of 30 years. Off and on. Marriage or no marriage.
