More Information: Gohan, like Gokuu, also has a pure, and innocent heart. His dream is to become a great scholar, but he was forced to turn away from some of his studies at the arrival of Radditz. During that fight, we learned Gohan had great fighting potential. Piccolo, and his father noticed this. During many battles, we watch young Gohan's hidden power explode upon the enemy, such as the fight with Garlic Jr., or Cell, and many more. Although it is fascinating to see why Gohan unleashes his "potential". Some might think that It only kicks in when others make him the victim of some sort of misdeed, but that is untrue. It only occurs when he sees the injustices and wrongs done to the people around him. 
Such wrong-doings, misdeeds, crimes, and injustices that he sees occuring around him guides him to make sort of an alter-ego of himself. Two such examples are "The Golden-haired Warrior", and "The Great Saiyaman". But those aren't the only reasons why he decided to become sort of a "super hero": another reason is because of his experiences while fighting as a child.At first, when we see Gohan as a small child in the hands of his Uncle, and captor, Radditz, he is loud, annoying, and complete baby. But when Piccolo takes Gohan to train, he is taught to survive on his own, and to control some of his power. The battle with Vegita and Nappa, is the time where Gohan really starts to mature, and learn about fighting back, courage, and basically becoming more like his father. Then, during the Cell game, Gohan really takes a big step forward. After seeing his friend (an android) destroyed right before his eyes, Gohan becomes enraged, and transforms into Super Saiya-jin level 2. That is the first time anyone has reached that level. With his power matching Cell's, Gohan, along with some encouragement from his friends and his father, he finally kills Cell. From that point on, Gohan is seen and respected as a true Saiyan. |
