In The Beginning

The Knick Man was born John Williams, from humble beginnings in Jamaica Hospital, in Jamaica, New York. He was born out of wedlock and raised in a single parent home by his mother, Rebecca Williams. The Knick Man spent a good portion of his youth in the rough and tough 40 projects in South Jamaica, Queens, but moved to Harlem, New York in his teenage years.

The Knick Man, like many other young African-American men didn't have too many options in his economically deprived environment. However, he was a highly intelligent young man. The Knick Man went to summer school during his elementary and junior high school years, so that he can get ahead. He always got very good grades and studied hard. He was also an exceptional basketball player. At age 16, he was a Senior in High School and captain of the basketball, wrestling, and track teams. He graduated from college and attended Georgetown University. After playing two years of college ball, in 1986, The Knick Man was drafted by The New York Knicks in the first round of the NBA draft.

His wrestling career all started with his retirement from the sport of professional basketball on June 26th, 1996. The Press Conference that rocked the sports world, The Knick Man officially retired from the NBA just shortly after securing his 10th NBA Championship with The New York Knicks. Many people wondered just how could a man at the top of his game, in the prime of his career, how could such a man give it all up. However, the end of his basketball career was not the end of The Knick Man's involvement in the sports world. For in April of 1997, less than a year after leaving basketball, The Knick Man signed a wrestling contract, wrestling in a small indy promotion out on the west coast, called the Extreme E-Mail Championship Wrestling League.

Extreme E-Mail Championship Wrestling (EECW)

Record: 2 wins 3 losses 0 draws
Titles Won: None

Wrestling under the toolage of the EECW's "The Master" Tony Starks, The Knick Man's wrestling career started off to a very rocky start. Teaming up with Starks and a rookie tag team known as The New York All Stars, they formed a stable known as New York's Finest! Starks career got off to a good start, as he defeated opponent after opponent. But The Knick Man and The All Stars did not have as much success. The Knick Man lost his first three matches and tempers began to flare. Arguments erupted and New York's Finest turned on "Babe" one of the members of The All Stars. A fued eveloped between The Knick Man and Babe where they fought three times to determine who would stay in the EEWC and who would leave. The Knick Man won the first and the third matches, but shortly after that, conflict developed between Starks and The Knick Man, and the group eventually broke up and went their seperate ways.

Awesome Simulation Wrestling (ASW)

Record: 26 wins 5 losses 13 draws
Titles Won: ASW Television Championship
2 time ASW World Championship
ASW American Championship
Retired to the ASW Hall of Fame

In May of 1997, The Knick Man met up with an old friend, known in the wrestling world as Lord Awesome. Lord Awesome was currently working for a relatively new, but fastly rising federation known as Awesome Simulation Wrestling. The Knick Man showed Awesome some tapes of his ring skills and Awesome was very impressed. He scheduled a meeting with ASW Owner Samantha Bevins and within a matter of hours, The Knick Man was signed to a ASW contract!

Although the EEWC was the league where The Knick Man made his wrestling debut, the ASW is without question, the league where The Knick Man became a superstar. During the time when The Knick Man arrived in the ASW, there were many talented youngsters also trying to make their mark in the wrestling industry. Men such as Hades, a tough youngster out of Pittsburgh whose only concern was putting a hurtin on his opponent. The Apache Assassin, probably the greatest wrestler in ASW history who never won an ASW title. Or Johnny Payne, a local tough guy out of the streets of Philadelphia whose claim to fame was that he was THE "Hardcore Legend." How could a man who was already 30 years old compete with such young talent? Well, The Knick Man showed the world that he was truly a force to be reckon with. He went toe to toe with then ASW Intercontinal Champion Eric Draven in his first title shot. Then, finally, in August of 1997, The Knick Man won his first ever championship in his wrestling career, the ASW Television Championship, defeating Hades in a "Belt Hangs on Rope" Steel Cage challenge. In this match, The Knick Man showed everyone that he would do ANYTHING to win, by acquiring the services of one of the most trecherous managers in wresting, the infamous Chris Wrigley and joining Reel Wild Inc.

With Wrigley and company to back him up, The Knick Man look virtually unstoppable during his ASW Television Title reign. Opponent after opponent challenged the cocky and arrogant Television Champion. But in the end, The Knick Man would always find a way to make sure that he left the ring with the ASW Television Title securely around his waist. Hades was obviously very pissed off at The Knick Man stealing his TV title and along with his friends, the Harbingers of Apocalypse, a bloody fued developed, a fued which almost lead to the closing of the ASW itself. But in the end, Reel Wild Inc and The Knick Man proved to be victorious, chasing The HOA out of the ASW.

With The Knick Man's biggest nemesis, Hades no longer in the ASW, this allowed The Knick Man the opportunity to go for the major prize in the ASW. The ASW World Heavyweight Championship. With the departure of Hades, the ASW World Title was declared vacant. A tournament was announced for October 31st, 1997, with the winner to face number 1 contender "The Franchise" Andru Edwards for the World Title. The Knick Man won the tournament, defeating James "Simply The Best" Pillow, Lord Awesome, and the previously unbeaten Apache Assassin to win the right to face Edwards. Then on November 23rd, 1997 at the ASW's Love It Or Leave It, The Knick Man beat Andru Edwards in what would be the longest match of his career, a grueling 42 minutes and 5 seconds to win his first ever World Title in his career.

After winning the World Title, The Knick Man was truly on top of the world. However, it would only last a short amount of time. For in December, the HOA made their return to the ASW. After wrestling Johnny Payne to a draw, The Knick Man also wrestled the HOA's Dark Bishop to a draw. Due to a dislike for him by ASW Commissioner Rich Richards, the commissioner declared the World Title vacant once again, to be decided in a Fatal Four Way between The Knick Man, Andru Edwards, Lord Awesome and Dark Bishop. The Fatal Four Way eventually became a one on one match, as The Knick Man had Reel Wild Inc attack Dark Bishop, injuring his knee and forcing him out of action. Andru Edwards also bowed out of the match at the last minute, exercising a clause in his contract and leaving the ASW. Thus, The Knick Man was forced to fight longtime friend and current ASW Intercontinal Champion Lord Awesome for a second time in a Falls Count Anywhere match. After such a grueling contest, The Knick Man once again defeated Lord Awesome to become the 2 time ASW World Champion.

It seemed that The Knick Man was unstoppable. At this point in his career, The Knick Man had never been defeated other than countout victorys. With the return of the HOA, Hades was once again the number 1 contender to the World Title. However, big problems began to develop behind the scenes of Reel Wild Inc. A conflict developed between Reel Wild Inc's manager Chris Wrigley and The Knick Man over who was the true leader of the stable. The match was signed between The Knick Man and Hades in a "Belt Hangs on rope" Steel Cage Challenge for the ASW's Breaking All The Boundaries on January 19th, 1998. During a tough contest, The Knick Man looked as if he would once again rise to victory, climbing out of the cage and securing the belt. However, his manager Chris Wrigley pushed his foot into the cage, causing him to lose balance and drop the belt. He then revived Hades and help Hades out of the cage giving The Knick Man his first major loss in his ASW career.

With the betrayal of Chris Wrigley, The Knick Man decided to form a new and improved Reel Wild Inc. A stable known as Knick Man's Finest. This stable included ASW World Tag Team Champions, Illegal Tactics, ASW Woman's Champion Miss Jasmine, and two of the most dangerous and insane men in ASW history, Mista Smith and "The Demon" Kyle Bane. With this new and improved stable behind him, The Knick Man went on in February to capture the ASW American Title becoming the FIRST and ONLY man in ASW history to hold three seperate singles titles in his career. After Illegal Tactics dropped the belt to Best of The Best, The Knick Man betrayed Illegal Tactics in favor of The Riche Brothers. After Kyle Bane captured the ASW Intercontinal Championship, The Knick Man had one of the most powerful stables in ASW history, holding the Intercontinal, American, World Tag Team, and World Woman's titles all at one time.

Alas, all good things must come to an end. The Knick Man held the American Title from February until April. With the resignation of ASW Commissioner Kennedy Michelle Chambers, The Knick Man was offered the position of commissioner by ASW President Sensuous Samantha. Therefore in April, The Knick Man announced his final match, a Ladder match against James "Simply The Best" Pillow. It was another great peformance by The Knick Man, but in the end, James Pillow won the title. The Knick Man then retired from the ASW, with the incredible feat of never losing a match by PINFALL or SUBMISSION, the only man in ASW history to acomplish such a feat. He took on the role as commissioner and served in that capacity until June of 1998, when the ASW closed down.

The Knick Man spent a good amount of time away from the WWO, but later on, he would make his return as a wrestler, by attacking former ally James Pillow after Pillow secured the WWO Television Title.
