"Candy" by Raena

It was the smell of cigarettes
Marlboro Lights
and coffee.
extra cream.
extra sugar.
and that personal smell
that everyone has.
the feeling of the rough
ground, on my feet
outside the appartement
the caffeine rush
nicotine cravings
her soft, warm body
held so close to mine
for several fleeting seconds
of staring into deep eyes
and giggles
and kisses
and yellow and purple post-it
"I love you"s
on her bedroom mirror
the midnight
phone calls
not often in depth
(with the breeze of people
in and out)
the "guess what"s,
"I love you"s.
her stories.
her roomates, boys
in drag
"do my nails match my shoes?"
the warmth of her coat
with us both inside
holding around her waist
leaning my forehead against hers.
Her face, pure, raw beauty
that I loved.
