"Shrinking Violets" by Christie Gibson
Look at all those shrinking violets
Waiting in their shadows
For a day that will never
Ever come
Simply waiting for the chance
They'll never get
Wishing for the dance
They think will set them free
Their dreams won't be reality
Never reality
The little violets shrink
From the light of the sun
The light that gives them life
And so they die
Before they give themselves a chance to bloom and be set free
Critiques:
-Ouch! Poem has bite, particularly good because of such a harmless image. I'd be tempted to think it overbearing except that it is so realistic.
