"The Civil War Tax In Louisiana 1865," with introduction by John Milton Price.
In 1864, the federal government made tax assessments on every LA property owner and tenants. Thus, taxes collected in 1865 were those assessed in 1864. If a land owner was unable to pay his taxes, his chattels could be seized and sold, which included slaves. The sale of slaves for delinquent taxes became a part of the federal tax structure.
The formly out-of-date book names every taxpayer (listed alphabetically by parish), the sum assessed to each person, and all lands and lots of ground with their improvements and dwelling houses.
Cost of the 354 page paperback (item C3) is $35 (plus $2.50 shipping).
