This is My Favorite Car of All Time

The Diablo SV is the latest production of Lamborghini. Built to celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of the most refined version of the Miura (the SV-Sport Veloce) the Diablo SV is a step towards a racing program exclusively for Lamborghini Customers. With the SV Automobili Lamborghini goes back to basics: the car has in fact the same engine as a normal Diablo but different camshaft and bigger valves that raise the output from 492 to 510 ps.

The SV`s Engine

The "SV"

You're back just in time to catch the arrival of the bombastic Diablo SV! Purebred for the true racing afficianado, capable of taming the wildest Bull of them all, the SV — Street Version — has earned its laurels via two seasons of racing on Europe's greatest tracks. Diablo SV is an expert driver's motorcar. Wildly responsive and lighter due to power delivery strictly to reaer P-300's — no 4-wheel VT unit weight to haul — as well as increased use of carbon fiber, the Diablo SV ups the ante a ton in the exotic ultra high-performance arena.

The heart of the Bull makes it possible. A virtual legend capable of hurling the Diablo past 60 mph in 3.9 seconds, the maV-12 boasts sequential port fuel-injection and a variable phase system for increased flexibility throughout gear ranges. Dependability and maximum engine performance is also enhanced by the exclusive electronic management memory system that records and makes available key mechanical data on any moment during the monstrous 530 hp powerplant's lifespan. Fresh air is delivered through two distinctive scoops! The result: Top of the Supercar Class at 199 mph!

This silver bullet looks like 200 mph standing still! Typical of all US-bound SV's, equipment includes Brembo ABS discs around, dual airbags, adjustable ride-height suspension, and the comfort package, which includes a leather-trimmed cockpit. The coupe is the epitome of brute power and design aerodynamics. If you seek excessive horsepower, blazing speed, and jaws dropping wherever you go, look no further! About 50 SV's will be available to the US market, so exclusivity is also a very done deal.

The latest Diablo reused the name "SV" which appeared in Miura P400SV many years ago. The letters mean "Super Fast" in english, which indicates that this Diablo is tuned to be more race car than road car. Many magazines like its harder and crisper suspension, stronger brakes and shorter final drive. They think the SV is the best handling Diablo even overshadow the SE30. Bigger valves, different cams and ram air device help increase the power to 510hp, while less equipment and lighter seats help reducing the weight to 1570kg. Thus the SV stands between the SE30 and standard Diablo in terms of power and weight. It is a lot cheaper than the SE30, and even cheaper than the standard Diablo, because of the deleted equipments. Shorter final drive ratio leads to the lowest top speed among all brothers, 186mph. However, with the much improved handling, who cares about the nonsense top speed ?

New Diablo SV

The first SV uses shorter final drive ratio to improve acceleration, with the draw back of lower top speed and noise. The second SV achieves the same advantage by improving engine, but without those draw back because switching back to the original final drive. The V12 engine finally gained variable valve timing in inlet valves, most likely a simple "phase-shifting" design. Power increases from 510hp to 530hp, more than the mighty SE30. Torque increases from 428lbft to 450lbft, but as expected, the VVT enables more healthy spread of torque in lower rpm, this explained why Autocar recorded incredible improvement in in-gear acceleration, although 0-60mph takes 0.1sec more. Other improvement including bigger brake discs - 355mm in front ; 335mm in rear. As a result, bigger 18 inches wheels and tyres are employed to accomodate the brakes. Besides, ABS and air bag are eventually available in a Lambo !! The new SV might be even faster than SE30. Factory figure claims 208mph, 1 mph faster than that special edition. But what impress us is not the already useless top speed, it is the sharper handling that appeared since the first SV, and the faster acceleration plus the drivability in the new version that keep me faithful with the big Lambo. Lamborghini succeeded in rationalise the short-coming of Diablo, while still preserving its exotic image.
