provided Lee High School with just enough offense to win this 3A Liberty contest. It was the eleventh victory in 13 games for the Lancers (4-0). Madison went up 3-0 early on, and its defense held Lee
scoreless through the first three periods. However, Lee's defense did a job of its own by not allowing Warhawks (0-4) to score again. Collier tied the score on a 31-yard field goal in the fourth quarter and won
the game on a 47-yard field goal with 22 seconds remaining. Quarterback Sean Dunn's 53-yard pass to Yonathan Moges set up the winning kick.

High School Weekend Report Winning Time: In his fourth game as a varsity football layer senior place kicker Rob Collier made a 47-yard field
goal with 22 seconds left in the fourth quarter to give Lee of Springfield a 6 - 3 Virginia AAA victory over Madision. But he did so despite his own coaching staff -- and maybe with a little help from Madison's.
Late in the fourth quarter with the score tied at 3, the Lancers advanced the ball to Madison's 19-yard line. According to Sean Carey, a Lee assistant coach, the
team called three plays "designed to give us some yards and set up an easier field goal." Instead, Lee lost 11-yards on those plays. "We wanted to make it easier on Rob, but instead
we made it much harder," said Carey, who helps coach Lee's offensive unit and kickers. "But before he kicked the ball, Madison called time trying to freeze him. I think that fired Rob up and made him even more focused."
Carey said Collier player soccer for three seasons, and tried out for foootballthis past summer only at the urging of his friend Sean Dunn, who is also Lee's starting quarterback. |
