TRIPOD LIVE!

They have to be seen to be believed..

This page is for my own reviews of Tripod shows that I've seen.. Please feel free to email me your review, if you like..

My first show, live, at my very own High School,
October 12th 2000.. the Obsession begins..

A great and proper introduction to the boys, who I'd previously only heard on JJJ, I was excited for many many weeks prior to the event.. and was about to die when they actually got there. An awesome show, many happy memories, and the beginning of my major fascination with the boys.

Prince Patrick Hotel, 26th October and 2nd November

The First show, and my first time at the Pat, it was fantastic, an absolutely hilarious show, perfect in every respect, except that I wished I had a better view.. but mine wasn't that bad.. 2nd row to the side.. I just wanted to be more toward the middle is all.. but not to worry.. all was well in my little world. My only other regret was that the people I went with weren't big tripod fans like me, and so, I didn't get to go talk to the guys afterwards to congratulate them on an awesome show, but I made up for it the next week..

Show number 2, back at the Pat, my only misnomer was the people I chose to bring, again.. I got there early enough to get my friend and I front row seats, but there was none for other people we came with, so we left them to find there own, since 2 next to us were saved (what are you saving them from? - says Gatesy to the people behind us..) and 2 of my very drunk "friends" come and take the seats, no matter what they're being saved for/from. *shakes head in regret* ahh dear.. then came the heckling.. it was horrifying.. although quite funny at first, but then he went too far. I kept telling him (him being NOFX boy, "cpt. Fuckwit" as the posting board people called him, and his gf - who I hope is not reading this..) to shut up.. but it just doesn't work. Sorry's go out to all of the audience.. it was funny to me (some of it..) cos I knew the guy, but I know if I didn't know him.. it would have just been really annoying.. really really annoying..
but anyway, a night to remember for sure. The version of 2nd Drawer down the boys did was awesome..although long, and slightly stuffed up. it was a hilarious night. I was only also pissed off because of my camera, which ran out of batteries during the first song. (NOOOOOoooOOOo!!!) and because, when NOFX boy got up to get drinks, his gf moved over to the seat next to me, so that when Gatesy decided to steal his seat, he was not next to me, but next to her.. god damn that.. *grrrrr..* still upsets me to this day.
I got stuff signed, and the boys remembered us again... yayness!

A Very Tripod Xmas IV: "Not Entirely Stable" - 10th December 2000 - The HIFI Bar Melbourne.

This is basically the summary that I wrote for the official board - with some bits swapped around.. so here ya go: A fabulous night I must say.. absolutely awesome..
I waited in line from about 6:10, only to be stopped at the door since the evil doorman had the opinion that under 18's should not be let in (no matter how much trouble they've gone to,or how many times they've called) The manager was called, and many people let in ahead of me.. which I was really upset about, but I had people to get me seats.. so that was OK..the manager let me in straight away *thank god - longest 5 mins of my life..* and I passed the boys on my way downstairs, which seemed way too exciting at the time :o) But yes.. on to the show.
After waiting til about 8:20, with, of all things, the Star Wars Xmas album (I personally thought that was a joke in the interview on radio Undercover .. but I stand corrected)and other music that just seemed to keep getting louder and louder..(I also got to buy my T-shirt)I was in a nice spot with many short people in front of me, 4th row Green corner.. but I would have preffered the mid-section of course.. but I had a good photo view anyway..Then came the incredibly funny intro, about good king Wencesl*ASS*... u had to be there and I need the script umm.. then came Peter Helliar who was semi-funny.. but wasn't THAT great.. some of his stuff was pretty good and he gave the boys a nice intro, and on they came.. *yaaay* singing a funky song that I cannot clearly remember..they pulled up their leg warmers and we were well and truly absorbed. Then came the Tripod Xmas Pageant.. which was a tape of the boys talking that they mimed along to, funny shit..and Belinda Emmett came out during that. There were many funny lip-syncing jokes..In my opinion, I'd have to say Gatesy's lip-syncing was the best..(or at least the Funniest) Scod seemed to know his lines the best though and did a great job, Yonny too (they should have been on Hey, hey it's saturday)they sang in this part: "Neverending (XMAS)story" and went into the future ("ooohhhh the future!" )where secrets about Belinda and Gatesy were revealed.. much to Rove's dissapointment..in a surprise and adorable cameo. Too many songs to remember.... dammit.. *need's(read: want's) a playlist too* I don't know the order properly..the Parapa-pum-pum dancers were adorable..and here's my rundown completely out of order: When a Child is Bored , A song about the Little drummer boy becoming corrupt, Fabian (the reindeer with no nose.. I'd pay to see that funky dance again, and I'm sure I will..), Plastic Surgery for Xmas, Shops - special Xmas version.. Scod needed to do his homework a bit better on that one.. umm.. we also had a Xmas song written by each of the boys to each other.. (slyly resembling the Birthday songs *note:read as exactly the same as the b'day song.. with the word 'Birthday' replaced by the word 'christmas'* but it sorta made more sense that way..) we also had Krap Karate, Cowboy, Meg + Russell(of course!!), have yourself a merry revolution(!!!) the single version of Xmas song (with "backups" by Rove on Bass, Peter Helliar on Guitar, Belinda Emmett on Keyboard and Santa on the Drums..) Beven's appearence was pretty spiffy.. god he's got a voice on him!! He sang Amazing Grace (I believe) after Yon and Gatesy decided they didn't like Scod's version of 'White Christmas', which I found quite adorable..*g*, lets not forget "fear of shorts!" and as an encore, we got a normal version of "O Holy night" after a new rendition of "busted mic stand" which was extremely funny, I'm glad I finally got to see it done.. and then "Would you mind" was the big finale! It was a GREAT, GREAT night, I loved the show, and the Parups, and I love my new blue T-shirt with cool signatures on it.. and I'm glad I got to give the boys prezzies.. (even if Gatesy's buggered up so I couldn't squirt him in the face with water *dammit*)..but my thanks go to the guys for a fantastic night, and for remembering me.
I wanted to stay and chat but my brother had to work at 4am.. so I really couldn't..and I was pissed off.. But I'm sure I've forgotten something.. I always do.. but most importantly.. the night was awesome.. I'm sorry to all the people that missed it, too bad people.. it was an unforgettable night of fun!

Gaslight music instore appearance - 14th December 2000

Kristy and I arrived at Gaslight at about 5:10, after I'd been walking around the city all day, I was glad it was finally time for some Tripoddy goodness! We sat on the stage and people slowly arrived, Anyway, I was too busy chatting away to Kristy and friends, and waiting for the boys. Scod was the first to arrive, followed by Gatesy then Yon, Scod did a lovely sound check (I can't remember the song.. but it was funny to hear..) and then he went and talked to the other guys, while we waited impatiently, listening to Open Slather on the speakers and singing along. The boys wore casual clothes for the show, but I found it funny that they all seemed to be in blue.. which was way funnier when during Lovesong, Yon still told the girls to say "I'm leaving you for the guy in the green" and Gatesy and Scod pointed out to him that for once he wasn't in uniform, and that you would think he'd have noticed that after 4 years of performing the song...
They started the show with a song I call Xmas time, very funny and adorable.. Scod gets distracted by Buffy videos, and blames that for any stuff-ups he makes (Noone believes him..) They then sing Fabien, a new fabourite I'd have to say - But the dance was lacking since there was hardly any room to move.. sad stuff, Gatesy cracked during the song when he looked at Yon doing his Fabien face.. with the weird nostril thing.. ahh.. so so funny..
They then sang some stuff from Open Slather: Ikea, Lovesong, A shandy too far and Xmas song as the finale.

The show was great because it felt so personal, like it was just for us (which I spose it was..) and Gatesy doing an impression of me trying to subtly take photos was a highlight for sure. Also Kristy and Springy's little dance on the sidelines distracting Gatesy and setting him off was also hilarious, Big laughs for the "new" version of Xmas song, Scod threw gatesy somehow, I don't remember exactly what he did... but Gatesy sang "I'd rather drink a tumbler full of Killer bees.." accidentally I'd assume..
the show was heaps of fun since it was so small, and huge huge thanks go to the boys for all the photos we got taken afterwards, holding a grumpy, hungry Gatesy back from his umm.. dinner or lunch? But the guys were still really great. Kristy and I got our T-shirts signed (me for the second time)after we got our CD's done and everyone else had gone except a small bunch of us, Kristy was extatic because Scod remembered her name, as was I, again!! And even moreso when Gatesy told me that the presents I gave to the guys for Xmas were going in their gig box and would probably be pulled out in future for a water fight on stage *jumps for joy!* so if you see them fighting with pens that squirt water.. that was me.. *grinz with pride* Awesome show, great day, and I was so glad that heaps of people there bought the CD too, I myself had to buy another copy because I forgot mine.. but I'll send the other to my friend in france once I get it signed for her, great Xmas prezzie I reckon..
anyway, I'm outta here.. For anyone who missed this show, it was adorable(as usual). See the photo's that are now up on the picciez site!

The Falls Festival - 2 shows - 30th and 31st December 2000!

OK, this is gonna be a basic summary of my weekend, with everything but tripod cut out, pretty much.. make sense? no? ok then, here goes..
we arrived at the Falls on Friday night, after a long boring drive and ferry trip, only to get a crappy camping spot because they were shoving the early comers up the back.. argh.. so not fair considering we had to pay an extra $15 EACH!
anyway, so didn't sleep much Friday night, too much excitement (and uncomfort sleeping in the back of a car.. hehe.. truly not recommended)
I got up at about umm.. 9 on Saturday morning, got ready and headed up toward the big top at about 9:30 (may I say, it was fairly stupid turning up to a smallish gig 2 and a half hours early...) But on the upside, I bumped into Gatesy on the way up, who stopped and talked to me (GRIN!) It would have been better if I hadn't just walked up a huge hill and been massively puffed, but it's ok. I asked if they were warming up or anything and he said he didn't know cos he'd only just arrived there and was looking for someone who could tell him where they were playing.. I told him that it said the Big top, and that the big top was the big blue umm.. big top up there, so he thanked me, and I told him I'd see him later.. (slightly embarassing to be going that early, but I'm dedicated.. yeah that's the word..*G*)
I stood around waiting for my friends to come up from camp until about 11 O'clock. and I'd asked a grounds guy if this was the right place and he said no, it was somewhere else so I was stressing out, but then I saw Yon and Scod there, and decided he was just a moron, so I went and asked scod - who assured me that they were..so I felt better.
I sat up front, about 2 metres or less(probably less) away from the stage, and waited impatiently.. They did "soundcheck" at 11:30ish, maybe later (god this is a povo account of events..but I wasn't quite looking at my watch every 10 seconds so I don't know.. plus it was a couple of weeks ago now)
anyway, finally the guys started at about 12:30? again I'm not sure..
A truly great show, even with (I think) Klinger playing in the background to annoy them, it was incredibly funny, although the crowd was quite small on the Saturday it had grown on the Sunday for the second show, which was even better than the first.
Playlist for day 2 is up on the pics page, but day 1's is on the back and the pen has gone through, so it is very hard to read:
Crap karate, Fear of Shorts, Apparently, Meg and Russel (simply 'Dennis' on the playlist), 2nd Drawer down, Ricky (Gatesy's Ricky Martin impression..), Lovesong, Stalk you, hate your family *(BREAK)* Mucus, Jamie Oliver, I was born, Fabian, Ikea, Birthday, Cowboy. the playlist had 3 more songs on it, but they finished up with Cowboy for some reason, probably because they started late.
I'd have to say these shows showed off the best of tripod's best, especially with Sailor dance, Would you mind, I will be there and Cuckold for good measure on day 2 (they swapped a couple around)
and Gatesy handed me a can of a drink called 'burn' during the second show, which they had explained as "like being shot in the head" I was then told I had to explain to everyone else what it tasted like after the next song, but I was never asked, which was kinda dissapointing. although they did tell me I wasn't allowed to say Cough medicine, and I don't know how else I'd describe it.
Although the guys were suffering severe hangover's on the Sunday, their show was unreal, and definately better than the first, although they were both great.
I'm so so glad I went to the Falls, even if I didn't catch that many bands (Silverchair ROCKED I must say, but I'm pissed off I missed Reef because of evil people wanting more alcohol straight after new years..argh to them.)
It was worth going just for Tripod I'd say, great, great GREAT shows, I can't wait until the next.
