EARLY PROSPERITY

The turn of the CENTURY brought vast changes to SYDNEY.The
construction of the STEEL PLANT brought THOUSANDS of workers and
their families to Cape Breton from all over the world.DESENDANTS of
these families still live here, altho the work force has dwindled to
hundreds.

THE TOP PICTURE,about 1908,was taken at the DODD STREET
railway station. The people are not identified, and any assistance
would be welcomed in their identification.

The second picture is the SYDNEY ACADEMY, located on
GEORGE STREET, where the Cape Breton Post is presently located.

The BOTTOM PICTURE is a view from THE NORTHEND of the
ESPLANADE.The rooftop view shows the harbour, looking south from
VICTORIA PARK.Many of the homes shown, still stand today.
