HOUSING   TARANTULAS

There are a variety of ways to house tarantulas. None is very expensive. The particular housing method to use depends on the type of species you're keeping. One rule applies to all captive spiders- All taratulas must be housed alone. Tarantulas are not social animals and in the wild they live alone in shelters and in barrows, away from their kind. If housed together, the larger one may attack the weaker and smaller one.

BARROWERS & ABOREALS

Tarantulas fall into 2 main categories; barrowing and aboreals. Barrowers live in holes in the ground, aboreals constuct their silken web on trees.

CAGE SIZE

Taantulas are basically inactive animals that spent most of their time sitting motionless. Therefore they do not require too much space and can trive in small accommodations. A 5-gallon or even 3-gallon tank will do. As long as the cage is twice as wide as the legspan of the spider and 4 times as tall.
