Flowers

Like sakura with Japanese and tulip with Dutch, the four kinds of flowers, lotus, peony, plum and chrysanthemum, are the most popular with Chinese. People love flowers so much that they even bind their favorite plants to some human natures.

Lotus is considered as holy and pure, although its root is in dirty ooze. Struggling people from the bottom of society believe in bearing analogy with the flower and dream of their future success, as they have seen a plant growing from under water may have most beautiful blossoms blooming.

"After drinking wine after twilight under the chrysanthemum hedge,

My sleeves are perfumed by the faint fragrance of the plants.

Oh, I cannot say it is not enchanting,

Only, when the west wind stirs the curtain,

I see that I am more gracile than the yellow flowers."
