Every Saturday…Mom would begin,
She made the dough and let it rise;
Our mouths would ‘water’ all day long,
Yes, all day long…we’d agonize!
The aroma from our kitchen,
Was just more than we could bear;
Saturdays were busy days,
But, our thoughts were always back there.
When the dough had fully risen,
Mom would divide it into three;
Then, she would spread it around,
Around each greased pizza pan…you see.
A little bit of olive oil…now,
And, add some tomato sauce;
Now, the real fun would begin,
As we added our favorite ingredients…of course.
Ground beef…chopped onions and green peppers,
Mushrooms…a sprinkle of basil and oregano;
Maybe a dash of pepper and garlic,
Top with grated Parmesan and shredded Mozzarella!
Of course…our tastes are different,
So, we also made another kind;
Chopped ham…with lots of pineapple,
Such a feast…on which to dine!
My mouth is ‘watering’…as I write this,
For…it all brings back fond memories;
I’m sure my sister remembers…too,
We have both written about this…in our diaries!
Memories…of by-gone days,
Happy memories of times long past;
And, when we continue these traditions,
Happy memories…will always last!
