Another Bitchfest?

2-3-2001

At the risk of sounding negative (..again!), there are several things sticking in my libertarian craw this morning. Hard to believe, isn't it?

Firstly, not that I think "working within the system for change" is any longer a viable course for dissidents and revolutionaries, why do libertarian political types insist on continuing the fruitless campaign of attempting to educate the unwashed masses under the maligned and misunderstood banner of "Libertarianism?"

Get a clue, LP'ers! Change the name of the Libertarian Party to "The Freedom Party" or "The American Party."

If indeed, political change can still be wrought working within the system, shitcan the "Libertarian" moniker and use a name that the putatively dulled minds of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Sixpak can embrace and comprehend. Tougher, too, the task of casually besmirching "The Freedom Party" by the entrenched and reactionary establishment puppet masters and their media minions.

Next, ....in spite of the widespread collective sighs of relief in the wake of the departing Clinton administration, big socialist government has unfortunately NOT packed its bags as well.

The first act of the new George W. regime was an Executive Order (surprise!) mandating a new federal mega-bureaucracy charged with controlling faith-based charities! If you can't see what's bugging me about this, go back and crack the books and reread The Declaration of Independence and The 1st Amendment in the Bill of Rights, amongst others.

Next, ....not that the vapid arena of professional sports interests me much any more, did you know what the security contingent minding the recent Super Bowl hullabaloo in Tampa used in discharging their duties?

Biometrics. Computer integrated biometrics. Specifically, facial recognition technology, entailing taking a picture of every spectator passing through the turnstiles. These pictures are then digitally compared to pictures of criminals in the authority's computer files, and presto, ....any matches are apprehended and brought to justice!

Even more disturbing than the predatory potential of this techno-wizardry employed by "the authorities," is the de rigueur, sound-byte parading of sundry authoritarian administrators and technicians, and numerous cameos of Joe Sixpak's themselves, all blithely cheerleading for this sinister new technology.

Comments like, "If they can catch crooks with it, more power to them!" and, "If you aren't doing anything wrong, you have nothing to worry about!" really kill me.

Excuse me, but did any of you dolts ever consider just which techno-autocrat is determining what "doing something wrong" means? Oh, ....the humanity!

As for the implications of this new "security" Godsend, and the intent and veracity of the definers and definitions incumbent in its implementation, one need not look further than those venerated Anglo-totalitarian security states of England and Australia.

Even as I opine here, ....at this very moment, these bastions of free men and high principles have thousands of "security" cameras mounted in the streets and public ways, and are currently working out the logistical problems in order to clear the way for ever-larger national and world wide computer data bases to further enable the new biometric monitoring technology.

There is also planning now taking place to extract DNA signatures for the data bases from every citizen in the realm, ....criminal or not, ....all in the name of "the good of society!"

I feel "safer" already. Don't you?

On the brighter side, lest you think me only a bitch, recent developments closer to home involving freedom and politics are encouraging and inspirational. "Good of Society" legislative bodies in the United Socialist States of Canada and the Socialist State of California are experiencing difficulties in the implementation of their sweeping new weapon registration and disarmament agendas.

Basically, millions of law abiding gun owners are thumbing their noses at Big Brother by refusing to comply with the latest draconian and onerous registration and confiscatory decrees of their respective governors. A heartening new twist on the "Just Say No" policy, wouldn't you say?

....And finally, on the financial freedom front, the burgeoning and revolutionary, a-political, world wide money, e-gold, is alive and kicking, ....and growing, ....with nearly 150,000 accounts now established in every corner of the globe! Fans of freedom, gold, on-line commerce, or any entrepreneurial endeavor, owe it to themselves to seriously check this system out.

Until next time, God Bless us, and stay free!
