Tower Clock Project

In 1976, in conjunction with the Bicentennial, Joe Schuler and Don Kobi, members of Chapter 11, undertook a project to visit and photograph as many of the remaining tower clocks in Baltimore as they could. Over the next several months, they managed to visit and photograph 32 clocks and produced a slide show.

Over the past two years, various members of the chapter have taken it upon themselves to re-visit these clocks and add any others that were either missed in 1976-77 or were added since then. In searching out clocks to visit, we are indebted to the work done by Thomas and W. Francillon in supplying information on Seth Thomas (ST) and E. Howard (EH) clocks in Maryland. We have expanded our project from Baltimore to include all of Maryland and we have tried to put together a table indicating the information we have so far. Column 1 of this table is a two-letter designation of the city or town, Column 2 is our ID# composed of two letters followed by the year the clock was installed. Column 3 is the current name followed by any previous name below it. Column 4 is the source of our information other than our actual visit. Column 5 is the year the clock was installed. Column 6 is the maker. Column 7 is the model number and/or the number of dials. Column 8, first line indicates the city or town, second line indicates the year(s) we have visited it and the rest is other pertinent information.

From time to time we will display pictures of some of the clocks we have visited. To see pictures of the Bromo Seltzer tower, To see pictures of the Bromo Seltzer tower clock, please click here.

We would appreciate any information you might be able to supply to fill in the many gaps including clocks not on the list. At this point we are concentrating on clocks installed at least 50 years ago, especially mechanical clocks. To see the table, click [here] The table is in alphabetical order by town. To send information Mike Eder and indicate Tower Clock Project in the Subject line.
