This is not an extremely well known anime. Had it not been suggested by a much wiser otaku I would never have even heard of it. I'm so very glad that I listened! The whole story is about love and hate lasting from one life into the next. Reincarnation, psycic powers, love, action, and a great story make this an anime that should be viewed by everyone! Boy or girl even though I think it's more a shoujo anime than anything else.
The plot is rather twisted and hard to understand if it's being explained w/ no knoladge of the characters but I'll give it a shot anyway. A long time ago there were seven scientists from another world living on a base on the Earth's moon. They had been sent to study it but were wiped out by a virus. All seven were reincarnated as humans down on the earth. The story follows them in their new life on earth with mere fragments of the memories of their past lives. It focuses mainly on Alice and Rin. The two have a rather large age difference(this is explained later in the OAVs), but after an unfortunate accident Rin begins to change. Strange psycic powers begin to manifest in him, he falls for Alice and starts to make some sinister plans. He was Shion, a loner who was rather bitter. Shion and another scientist, the lovely and kind Mokuren, were in love. But another coveted Mokuren and committed a terrible deed in an effort to have her for himself. Now Shion is once again trying to regain his love and pay back his old "friend".
Alice on the other hand has only one dream after talking to two of her classmates. They had mentioned having the same exact dreams as each other. In her dreams she stars as "Mokuren", an extremely beautiful and smart woman with an affection for living things, just as she has in real life. After a long search most of the seven find each other, but have no clue as to why they have once again decided to do so instead of just going on living their new lives. And most of them don't even really remember much more than bits and pieces. It seems that Issei and Ginpachi have a rather interesting problem. Issei was a woman in her last life, Ginpachi a man. They werent exactly in love but had an extremely close relationship. Issei's past incarnation had been secretly in love w/ Ginpachi's and never said so. Now they have been reborn as both men, but the strong feelings have carried over. Poor Issei is trying to deal with all of this while Ginpachi is totaly oblivious and considers Issei as his best friend. All the while Ginpachi is chasing Alice, since is past incarnation had been in love with Mokuren the whole time.
Could you imagine this? Having dreams that played out like a soap opera in your head every night? You come to find out that you were from another world sent to study the earth. A virus wipes out you and everyone with you. Shortly therafter you are reborn on the earth had been sent to watch over. A young neighbor boy that you babysit was actually your lover in your last life, but you don't know that. A freak accident begins to trigger memories of his horrible past life. Of his struggle to grow up during a war, the unfortunate death of his foster family, and his years of living alone on the moon after all of his companions had died. Forced to continue life alone there because of a promise to his dying love and the knoladge that a man who had called himself "friend" had betrayed him. You have a dream, but only one. Others take it as a sign and almost worship you for it, because it was you who turned the heads of most of the males on the moon. Only the single dream. The others in your group see you as Mokuren, you see yourself as an imposter. Signs that others plainly see as proof, you're ability to sense the feelings of plants and animals, have always been normal. Strange things happen. There is no explanaiton. What is going on?
The story is rich and detailed as the animation. The one thing that really stands out is the music. Totally fitting opening song, "Moment's Memory". The BGM is also really beautiful. Even if you don't like the anime at all, buy the soundtrack. So relaxing and nice to listen to while reading or siting in the bathtub.
