Cabrillo Point -- VIPS
One of the best kept secrets about National Parks and Monuments is the services performed by volunteers. Volunteers donate their time and talents to make the parks work. The Service asks for a minimum of 15 hours per month for a minimum of 6 months. The NPS calls the volunteer program VIP (Volunteers In Park). Volunteers perform all kinds of work around the park. For instance, here at Cabrillo National Monument, volunteers help at the Information Desk. They perform Living History characters. They help with the website. They help to monitor and assist visitors in the tidepools. They help with the landscaping. They help with special events like the Cabrillo Festival or NPS Founder's Day and more.
Here are a few pictures showing some of them at work. Click on the pix to "view image" to see larger pictures.
