Here I am going to venture in a slightly different direction with my EMS pages. The poem below was written and dedicated to a Little Cowboy who was a patient of mine - one little cowboy who will not be forgotten.

God's Littlest Cowboy

They come into this world
Wild as an outlawed horse
Their blue eyes twinkle
Like stars in the heavens above.
There's a look in those eyes as
Mysterious as the West Texas wind.
They go wide open like a mustang
running from people who attempt
to tame them.

You see they are born free, to
live their life no matter how short
it may be.

They watch their cowboy families
and they're born with this trait
in their bones.

One thing we must understand is
They're not a gift from heaven
They're merely a wonderful loan.
Everything under this Western sky
Belongs to God above.

These little cowboys that He
lends us are covered with His love.

We know somehow they're special and
We see it right away. The way they
carry their little ropes and get
tougher with each passing day.

Then one day God needs them
to help with His great drive
So He gathers all His helpers and
they push cattle across the sky.

Now Lord - It's a mighty burden
you've given us to bare, I pray that
you will grant the strength to
live with the pain we share.

Lord - You've left a family
They have a hole within their
hearts. Let them turn to You
now to heal all the broken parts.

Let them know he's with you Lord
He'll never shed a tear and
with their own salvation, someday
they'll join him there.

The drive will then be finished
The little cowboy riding lead
The first to get off his mount, Lord
The first to ride with Thee.

Dedicated to a little cowboy upon a mighty steed.
