Comments: Hi again. It's been wonderful to get in touch with old school mates since signing the guestbook. St Andrew's obviously holds a place in many hearts! School couldn't have been so bad after all ... looking back at it from years later, anyway. Anyone who was at school with me - first La Sagesse in Limbe then St Andrew's, please email me - I promise I'll answer.

Comments: My sister Barbara found your website earlier this week. My folks - Beryl and Terry along with Carol and Graham went to Blantyre in late 1949. Barbara and I were both born there. We all went through St Andrews, starting at the origional school opposite the old Water Development Workshop, on to the new Prep School in Sunnyside, and then to the High School. Memories of the mob walking up to the prep school boarding house for the flicks on Friday night. The Jones's being the biggest family group would drop everyone off before heading home. Who remembers when the Coke factory first opened - the whole prep school from the old site went on excursions - a free bottle for each kid. Did any coke after that ever taste so good. Also when Dairy Den opened - the first "soft serve" most of us had ever tasted. I was in England last year and was able to catch up with Paul and Mark Jamieson, Sue Hodges and Linda Marshall. How fabulous. I took the book of Sailing Club cuttings 1960 to early'64. What memories were called forth. Is there any one logging on to the site that was a member of the Junior Section of the Ndirande Sailing Club in the early 60's? The memories of the years spent in Malawi (Nyasaland when we were there) are treasured. It is great to catch up with old friends. Please feel free to contact on the email address.

Comments: Fabulous website. It brings back all the fond memories I have of living in Malawi and working at Bunda College of Agriculture in the early 80s. Malawi is a beautiful country and I loved my time there. I hope to bring my son back to visit there one day...he was born in the hospital in Lilongwe and is now 18 years old. Cheers

Comments: I was born in Nyasaland in 1952, and lived there until 1964, pre-independence. I went to St Andrews Preparatory School. I often wonder what happened to Jill Rogers, Hilary Thomson, Matthew Sil :-) , Anthony Bowler,Stewart Duncan and Joseph Bachalou (that spelling could be wrong). I also wonder what happened to friends of our family, my brother Graham's friends Dave (aka Miles) Sherring, and Jon Hazeldine, Patrick Mayne, Paddy Briody and his sister Liz? My sisters are Carol and Gwynneth. Malawi will always have a special place in my heart, the pictures on your website are so beautiful, they made me homesick, after 35 years away! In Australia, the smell of rain on the road after a hot day smells the same, and makes me homesick too.

Can you perhaps advise me on websites or e-mail contacts of camping sites in the Northern and Central regions of Lake Malawi. I have been to the South. I am planning a visit in December 2000. What are the conditions of the roads in these areas? Thanx again.

Comments: Have read the comments from previous surfers in desperation trying to find a name I recognised. Was at St Andrew's in the early 60s, then worked on the Times until late 1965. Where are my old colleagues Harold Kasambiza, Levson Lifikiro, Austin Mmadi and Roy Manda? Our editor was Don Trelford - guess the world's heard of him now. Anyone at school - Anne Bowler, Swotty Rat, Christine Baring-Gould, Caroline Bolt - are you out there? Yes, Mrs Mullen, who could forget her? Miss Low? Snolly? The list is endless. Malawi, home of my heart, I miss you. The pictures are lovely, but can we have some news, too?

I miss the people who sang in the Music Society production of "Iolanthe" by G & S. I miss Maxwell, Grace and Elizabeth - we can never meet again. I miss the Anglican Church in Limbe, movies and study in the French Cultural Centre and the journey to Thyolo past the tea plantations. There's so much more I might include Though some memories are bittersweet, the beauty of the country remains strong in my mind. I imagine I smell the fragrance of woodsmoke in the evening air and I hearing the rain falling. What lovely memories. Yes I miss you, Malawi.

Comments: We stayed at the Shire Highlands Hotel two weeks ago and found it very highly priced. The information I got from the internet stated $35 per person per night. When we got there, it was $115 + 10% surcharge + 10% tax per person per night. In comparing it to western hotels, it failed to live up to these prices. Consequently, we stayed two nights and moved on rapidly. I can only say how disappointed we were and found much better quality rooms in lodges instead. A point to mention - more lodges are accepting credit cards as payment which may be more useful to those camping who don't like to carry a lot of cash with them. I can recommend the Mjobvu Elephant Lodge 13km short of Nkotakota with camping, chalets, showers and land + water safaris. Watch out for the wind power experiments!

Comments: Abraham, You are blaming the government for deporting illegal visitors into Malawi and yet you do not tell us why these brothers had to cross a number of countries to look for assylum in Malawi, why they did not follow the normal procedure of registering for assylum, why they were carrying fake documents and why as a country we should keep soldiers from a war front. You can take care of yourselves on this issue otherwise we have better problems to worry about than to meddle into wars that are being fought far away. What would have happened if Ethiopian forces invaded Malawi to look for these soldiers? Our security forces should have been spending a lot of their time on this issue at the expense of defending Malawians who are being terrorized by armed thugs. Forgive us, we have many problems already. Tell your people to choose other destinations especially your neighbouring countries. If your neighbours are bad let us be bad as well. Kumikombe

Comments: Malawi is well known, globally, for its hospitality and friendliness which should not be taken for granted. Just to give you a hint on the refugee status in Malawi. At one point, small as it is,Malawi hosted over 1 million Mozambican refugees. Some of these have returned and some are still in Malawi. Currently there are several hundred thousands of refugees from all over Africa and some are still coming in (Refer to Pana African News on Malawi Page). As long as asylum seekers have proper documents Malawi will never send them back. But if the travelling documents are fake or suspicious definitely there is no other solution but to send them back (any country would do the same). As for the Eritrea saga, the officials acted within their line of duty and no single Malawian will be ashamed of such an appropriate act. This is a reminder to all those "would be asylum seekers or travellers to Malawi" that without proper documents you will not enter the country. Gone are the days when every one entered Malawi as he/she wished. We are all governed by rules and policies and we should abide by them. Bravo Malawi. I am proud to be Malawian.

The hastey reaction by your governmet on this matter makes me wonder what kind of an African nation you are. Comments: The latest saga of the deported Eritreans from Malawi exposes the shameful and immoral position of the Government of Malawi. Instead of providing refuge and a transition stay for the unfortunate 25 Eritreans, Malawi has callously deported them back to guess where: Ethiopia! Most of the Eritreans have suffered enough at the hands of the TPLF in the Blatien camp. Imagine spending more than a year interned in malaria-infested camps and losing your basic human dignity and rights to only end up back to the place you most abhor! SHAME ON THE GOVERNMENT AND PEOPLE OF MALAWI !!! SHAME ON YOU !!!
