From Cammy: Are you married, engaged or
otherwise taken?
I'm a single man at the moment.
From Andy_Zamarripa: Do you think we will
really have coed showers in the future?
I hope so. I kind of like them.
From Lisa: How old are you?
28.
From Erin: How alike are you and Johnny Rico?
Well, we are both big fools for love. We make a
lot of mistakes for women, and we'll always do it
again.
From b4lemon: What mistakes have you made for
love?
What mistakes haven't I? Once, I gave away a
watch. I had no money, and this guy was selling
flowers on the side of the road, so I gave him
this really expensive diving watch for the flowers
and took them home to my girlfriend. She got
really pissed that I gave my watch away. We're not
together anymore.
From Mary_Ann_Bejado: Do you plan to get
married or possibly have some kids? What are your
hobbies and interests?
Yes. And I ride horses, swim, do a lot of reading,
writing. I sail, scuba dive, play football,
basketball. I only sleep four hours a day--ever
since I was 16. I like to do things!
From Brian_Foster: Was it hard not being able
to see the bugs because they were computer
animated, or was it pretty easy with Paul
Verhoeven in your face?
It was pretty easy with Paul Verhoeven in my face.
He's what I'd call an actor's director. It would
have been difficult if I'd had a love scene with a
bug.
From Cabe: Did you mind the nude shot? And do
you plan to do any more action movies?
No, I'm kind of an exhibitionist, anyway. As for
action movies, I did Tarzan, and I'm also about to
shoot Meltdown, which John Carpenter wrote.
From william_wong: What was it having a sex
scene with Dina Meyer? I would guess, with her
being such a fine girl, you'd be nervous. Were
you?
No, I wasn't nervous at all. It's an acting job.
It depends on how your character is supposed to
react to that person. It doesn't matter how they
are.
From warholio: Do you hang out with stars, or are
your friends mostly non-stars?
Most of my friends are non-stars, but I have a
couple of friends in the business. I don't think
I'll name any names.
From Bob,_Michigan: Did it hurt when the bug
stabbed you in the leg in the begining of
Troopers?
I had a fever of 104, so I was in a lot of pain.
But the stabbing, no, that didn't hurt.
From spliff67: I like your tattoo. Is it your
only one?
The one in the movie is not real, but my Casper
tattoo is real, and it is my only one.
From Kirsten: How are your wife and son?
My children are fine. And my ex-wife, I think, is
doing all right, too.
From becky17: Hey, Casper--it's Becks. Just
wanted to say hello. I think your dad is out here
somewhere, too.
Hi, Becky. Yeah, Dad's out there in chat-land
somewhere--and my mom, too. I owe you a call.
We'll talk over the holidays. And if Robin's out
there, I'll call you too.
From cinematech: Were you the first choice for
the Rico role?
Yeah, as far as I know, I was the only choice.
From Betheli: Were the bugs all computer
animation, or were there some real props for you
to work with?
Some animatronics, some CGI and some carcasses of
dead bugs. Phil Tippett (f/x guy) rocks!
From spliff67: Aren't you playing James Dean
soon?
I already played James Dean in a film called Race
with Destiny, but it hasn't come out yet. [Liz
Smith just reported that the film's due out in
January.] It was amazing playing him--a lot of
work and a lot of studying. I also had to change
my body to look out of shape.
From rumour: My friends got me to see your movie
because you're phat. Does it bother you that
you're developing a following among gay teens?
I had no idea I was. Does it bother me? No. Do I
have a problem with people liking me? No.
From kristentaylor: We're dying to know: boxers
or briefs?
Both. More or less, whatever a girlfriend gives
me. Anything Tarzan-like. I like all those leopard
prints.
From Jenny_Krause: I thought you looked very
hot in Starship Troopers. Have you received any
offers to be in other movies yet? You are great!!!
I have gotten a lot of offers. There's a love
story I'm going to do called Dream True, shooting
in Paris and Prague. The other lead isn't cast
yet. I don't even know who I'd want in it--so many
women, so little time.
From rickdogg: Was it fun to sleep in the
blizzard during boot camp before the shoot?
Oh, my God! I tried to take care of my fellow
troopers, who didn't want to get sick just before
we started filming. I, more or less, love camping
out, so I dug it, but I didn't enjoy other
people's pain.
From Warhola: Did anyone quit after that night
in tents during the snowstorm?
Some of the actors chose to go back to the hotel
at night. They didn't want to get sick, since
filming was starting right afterward. But nobody
quit. They all came out during the day and just
went to the hotel at night.
From malluvian: Where are you right now?
In Tarzana. Tarzan lives in Tarzana. (For you
non-locals, that's a suburb of L.A.)
From Paul: I know it's exciting to be on a
late-night talk show, but don't you think you were
a bit hyper the other night on Keenen?
I'm always that way. I bounce off four walls, 24
hours a day, seven days a week, because I only
sleep those four hours a day.
From whiplas: Are there plans for a sequel to
Troopers?
There's a lot of talk about a sequel but nothing
official. No paperwork done yet. I'd love to do
one, though.
From dilly28: Ever thinking of doing 90210
again?
No. I'm doing films now, and that's where I want
to be.
From b4lemon: How did you get the part of Johnny
Rico?
I slept with the director. No, not really. He just
said I was the best one for the job.
From strykerr: Who was the most impressive
person in the shower scene?
[Laughs.] Physically speaking? No comment. Let's
just say I was Mark Wahlberg's stand-in in Boogie
Nights.
From warholio: Aren't you from Texas?
No, but I did a film in Texas recently--On the
Border, with Daniel Baldwin and Bryan Brown. Bob
Misiorowski directed. I played Jake Barnes, who's
named after a very famous Hemingway character.
From scottscott: Man, that whipping scene looked
real! How'd they do that?
They beat me like the dog that I am. I just
reacted to the whip.
From keystoner: What's the scoop on Tarzan?
Filming complete?
We completed about four months ago after six-day
weeks in South Africa. Jane March, from The Lover,
is Jane. She's so petite, I look like Johnny
Weismuller (the original Tarzan).
From squill: What's your best way to spend a
weekend?
More or less, I've just been working. Being with
my kids would be the best way. I have two kids. We
read stories, go to the zoo, go on walks, play
sports, cook dinner. We like to sit around and
have a good time.
From keria: How old were you in Dangerous Women?
I was 21 or 22. I loved it. It was a lot of fun.
We shot it in the Glendale Studios.
From jthondo: How did you get such an unusual
name?
Every firstborn male in my family is named Casper.
I guess there was some Casper guy, like, 10
generations ago who I'm named after. I'm the 11th.
My son is Casper the XII.
From dilly28: How do you feel about having your
very own action figure?
I think it's pretty cool to have one, and I think
it looks nothing like me. I have 2 that are six
inches tall and 10 of the small ones that you
can't even tell are me.
From spliff67: If you only sleep four hours per
day, where do you get your energy?
My mom's been asking the same question my entire
life. I don't drink. I don't do drugs. I eat
really healthy, and if I'm tired, I take a nap.
From keria: Where do you see yourself five years
from now?
I'd like to continue to act and also produce. I've
already bought a script--a love story--that I plan
to produce.
From genevadc: Who made you laugh while making
the film?
Michael Ironside, Clancy Brown, Neil Patrick
Harris, Seth Gilliam (Sugar Watkins), Jake Busey.
We never stopped laughing, even when we heard the
same jokes over and over again.
From riegner: What's the most fun you've had
without getting caught?
I'm always having fun, and I don't care if I get
caught. I think it's more fun if you do get
caught. I do really crazy things all the time, but
I can't think of anything offhand.
From xxlestatxx: How did you like working with
Dina Meyer?
It was interesting to see the women in the mobile
infantry and see how they were portrayed--without
sexual stereotypes. We never really hung out off
the set.
From warholio: Why is everyone in Paul's films
soooo beautiful?
I don't know. Ask Jake Busey--or all the other
people. Thank you, I guess. I have no idea. You're
putting a lot of people in that beautiful
category--Seth Gilliam, Neil Patrick Harris. I
don't know. Weird question.
From betheli: I noticed a lot of the actors in
the film have also been a part of Aaron Spelling
productions at some time. Was this just a
coincidence, or what?
Being a working actor, you're going to do a
Spelling show. It's hard not to. We've also done a
lot of other shows--a lot of us did Doogie Howser,
a lot of us did Dr. Quinn. I think it has to do
with Patrick Muldoon.
From kristentaylor: If you could go out on a
date with any female celebrity, who would she be?
Oh, I wouldn't want to go on a date with a female
celebrity. I'd rather go on a date with a real
woman.
From rickdogg: I heard you guys had a real
commando on the set.
Capt. Dale Dye of the USMC. He was very intense.
He taught us military slang, maneuvers,
formations. He was the adviser on Troopers, as he
was on Platoon, Born on the Fourth of July and
others. Any big military film, he's the adviser.
From dilly28: What is your favorite food?
Steak and eggs.
From uncle_meat: Were there any scenes in
Starship Troopers that you wished had made it into
the final film?
No. I'm very happy with everything that made it
in. Everything is pretty much in there.
From monkeypants: Who are some of your favorite
actors?
Johnny Depp is a great actor. Val Kilmer does a
great job in his films. Harrison Ford and Arnold
Schwarzenegger are great. Robert Redford and Paul
Newman are amazing. I like no-bullshit actors like
Robert Mitchum, Clint Eastwood and John Wayne--oh,
and Elvis!
From whiplas: Was anybody hurt making Troopers?
Yeah, we had some bruises. I chipped two teeth. I
bruised my ribs. My whole body was smashed up. I
hurt my wrist, my knees. I coughed up blood after
that tanker bug scene.
From amanda21: Was it hot in those suits?
Yeah, they didn't breathe--all made of rubber. And
we had to carry around 50 pounds of equipment;
plus, it was between 100 and 110 degrees
outside--in Casper, Wyoming.
From enderxf: Do you have a favorite movie?
West Side Story because of Natalie Wood.
From wissman: Have you seen any of the Websites
dedicated to Starship Troopers, such as Neflyte's?
Yeah, I saw the official site when I was in Buenos
Aires doing promos. This guy and his wife had it
up on their computer.
From jermyn: Hi! When you worked on 90210, who
was nicest to you? Who was the coolest?
As soon as I got there, Luke Perry came out of his
dressing room and said, "Hey, I'm Luke Perry.
Really nice to meet you, and welcome aboard."
Jason Priestley did the same thing. Those guys
were cool.
From xxlestatxx: Have you read the book Starship
Troopers?
Yeah, I read it when I was a little boy. I wanted
to be in the power suits, big time! Then, as an
adult, I read it because of the film. It's very
controversial, and I like controversy.
From senate16: Who played Carmen Ibanez in
Troopers?
Denise Richards. She's one of the nicest girls
you'll ever meet. We did a pilot together years
ago called PCH that ended up being a movie of the
week or something. She was my girlfriend.
From mokems: Do you believe in aliens?
Yes. Absolutely. I think it would be foolish to
think we are the only life forms in this universe.
I think it would be silly to think that in all
those bright lights up in the sky, we're the only
ones.
From terry01: Was it weird doing a movie that's
so campy? I mean, some of the dialogue is so over
the top, it must've been hard to keep a straight
face. (But you were great!)
It was a lot of fun to play that. We knew some
people would take it too seriously. I like movies
that challenge people to recognize different
things. Thank you for noticing the campiness.
From pxanders: Do you have a favorite TV show?
Growing up, my favorite TV show was Star Trek.
Then it was Star Trek: the Next Generation. I also
watched a lot of football and sports. I haven't
had much time to watch too much TV lately. I like
The X-Files, The Pretender and The Tick. I also
liked Due South.
From kristentaylor: What do you think of the
Internet? Do you consider yourself computer
literate?
No, I consider myself computer illiterate. I'm
going to get one in the next few weeks. I am
totally illiterate now. I've been on a few times,
but I plan to go on more.
From enderxf: Do you have a favorite movie?
West Side Story, because of Natalie Wood.
From terry01: How was your experience on One
Life to Live? Soaps sure have some crazy
plotlines. Was it hard to keep up?
Nah. I loved taking my clothes off and having sex
with Tonya Walker.
From avatar1: Do you think you are the next
Willis or Stallone?
I think I am the next Casper Van Dien.
From love_goddess: What is your idea of the
perfect woman?
I like an intelligent woman--someone with a sense
of humor--and then, if we click...I'll tell you
when I meet her.
From mr_jones: What was the funniest thing that
happened during the Troopers shoot?
Patrick Muldoon and I were doing a fight scene,
and we told them to keep the cameras rolling. We
all of a sudden jumped into a thumb-wrestling
match.
From largo: Do you think Kirk could kick
Picard's butt?
Physically, young Kirk was much stronger, but I
don't know. Picard is so smart. That's a tough
one. I like them both. Kirk slept with green
women, so I love him.
From strykerr: What was People magazine
thinking? They should have had you as Sexiest
Newcomer!
Oh, thank you.
From avatar1: Did you get good grades in school?
If I really liked the teacher, I did. If I didn't,
I didn't. I was one of those kids who didn't have
to study hard to get an A, but if I didn't like
the teacher, I just wouldn't show up.
From whiplas: Are you planning to do Leno or
Letterman soon?
Yeah, I'm doing Leno tonight. I had to interview
with them for an hour to find things to talk
about. They'll tell me when I get there what to
discuss. It's my first time.
From avatar1: Who do you think is the most
beautiful girl in the world?
I thought Natalie Wood was. Now, my daughter.
From spliff67: What bands do you like? Do you
like Korn?
I actually like pea soup. I like Zeppelin, jazz. I
also two-step on occasion. It depends on what the
lady I'm with likes.
From pc_sage: Would you sleep with a green
woman?
Yes, I would. Is this a Dr. Seuss or a Star Trek
question? Yes, I am. Sam, I am. I do like green
eggs and ham.
From jermyn: If you had one wish that could be
granted, what would it be?
That everybody could have parents like mine.
From terry01: How did E! Online snag you for a
whole hour?
I was promised a date with Wanda.
From chupacabras: Would you do another sci-fi
movie right away, or have you had your fill of
staring at a blue screen and pretending there's a
monster there?
No, the Fleet Weenies are the ones we saw on the
blue screen. I was out there in the dirt, man. I
would love to do another sci-fi movie. Sci-fi
rules!
From strykerr: How long have you been in show
business?
Eight years. I took a theater class in college
(Florida State), and I got hooked.
From rickdogg: I heard that you had some
visitors in your tent during the blizzard--like
Carmen. Does Denise snore?
No, she doesn't. [Laughs hard.] Actually, nothing
went on--that's the unfortunate thing. I was still
married at the time. She slept between Jake and
me. We had two and a half feet of snow fall on us,
and her tent caved in, so she had nowhere else to
go. The next day, she went to a hotel.
From warholio: I work out everyday to maintain
my abs. Do you keep a rigorous workout plan?
I work out my entire body. I love abs. I like
having them--but the most important part of abs is
diet. I eat five to seven meals a day and a couple
of protein shakes. For abs, you need to cut down
one meal and one shake.
From tankerbug1: What was your favorite bug in
Starship Troopers?
The tanker bug, of course.
From malluvian: Is it true that the director and
cinematographer were also nude during the filming
of the shower scene?
No. The director flashed us--it was no big deal. I
was nude for 14 hours, but they weren't. I got my
ass slapped by Tami-Adrian George.
From pc_sage: Do you think Elvis is still alive?
He's alive in my soul.
From Casper: Thanks for coming, everyone, and
thanks for watching the movie. (It's a great date
movie.) See ya tonight on Leno--and be good to
children.
