Dance Till Tomorrow vol 1

Grade:

Dance till Tomorrow is a very original, abstract, crazy, witty, and cleaver comic. The topic is simply life, characters reflecting what is important to them through the obsticles that have been put before them. This is a manga that may not be groundbreaking in Japan, but it sure is here.

For starters, it shows that a comic can be about something other than superheroes. Not that this is a realistic comic, not by a long shot. The characters are very exagerated, with ghosts popping up to give advice. Still, it is far from mainstream and I enjoyed most of it.

While the characters are enjoyable, the story moves incredibly slowly. I'm really not sure what direction the book is moving in, if it even has one. The frame of the story is loose, infact the opening conflict of Grandpa's money is almost never mentioned, instead the focus is shifted to the theater. In vol. 1 the mini stories are funny and the characters enjoyable, but unless some direction is added in subsequent volumes, I'm not sure how much longer the series will hold my attention.
