Golgo 13: Queen Bee
Animation: A
Story: B-
Overall: B
Queen Bee is the follow up to the excellent Golgo 13: The Professional. It is not really a sequal, more of an extention, telling another story revolving around a central character. It could have been released first and no one would have known.
The plot is like the professional, Golgo is hired and the job turns out to be more complex than he would like it to be. The story is a lot simpler that the Professional. It lacks the pure energy and twists the first movie hard. Plus the film, especially Queen Bee, gets so philisophical, it almost made my head swim, I understand some of them but a lot of what Queen Bee says would only apply to you if you live your life fighting a constant war with your death seconds away. Also the characters are not as interesting a The Professional, neither is the voice acting. The Professional is about as good as it gets without professional actors, Queen Bee's voice over quality is ok for most characters, the best being the presidential nomine, the worst being Queen Bee.
Not everything is bad. The animation is a lot like the first movie, combining many different effects. It looks a little cleaner but there is less detail. The movie is short (60 min) which means the story is fast paced, since it was not that great to begin with this is a real plus. Not to mention its a Golgo 13 movie, it has been years since the first one was released so that gives it a little boost. Golgo 13 fans will like it, a casual fan should rent The Professional and then think about giving Queen Bee a whirl.
