Mutant Massacre
Grade:
The Mutant Massacre is a very well known cross-over X-men title which affected almost every x-title ever to this day, or so I understand because I have not read a X-title for about 7 years. The story itself is fairly interesting, a mysterious force is controling a group of mercinaries, who are ordered to kill the morlocks, for yet another unknown purpose.
The main problem is that the story was a crossover. Instead of crisp pacing one would associate with a story like this, it is drawn out to extreme lengths. What is the point of the Power Pack (I never heard of them before this either) and Thor appearing. I guess just to boost sales in their respective titles. Infact, most of the middle issues are basically filler, not adding anything to the story.
The story has some great small moments, like when Peter finally snaps over the devistation or Shadowcat finds she can not unphase. But these are far and between. Thats all the TPB is, a bunch of little moments. There is no closure to the story, the ending is so curveball, it isn't an ending. What happened to the Marauders, 90% of the story deals with them and suddenly they are gone, to be tracked down later I guess.
The story is not bad, the ideas are very good, it is just dragged out to long, which is surprising because the TPB is only 250 pages. Also the price is quite high, $25.00. In the end, I was extremely underwhelmed.
