Preacher: Proud Americans
Grade:
Proud Americans continues the adventures of Jesse as he heads to France to rescue Cassidy, leaving Tulip behind and needless to say, she is a bit upset. The book really opens up the direction of the series, moving it forward into the Grails, most specifically Starr's, perminant involvement in the book. The book also contains the origin of Cassidy, and like all of Ennis's work offers unique insight into vampires and history as well. But probably the best story out of this excellent set is the first one, in which Jesse meets Spaceman and he tells Jesse about how his father got that unique Zippo.
That story really shows two things. It shows Ennis's versitility as a writer, and proves that Ennis would be the perfect candidate for writing a war book. The story is gritty with spots of humor. Plus you get the forward which praises the book and a cover gallery for only $15.00. One note, you need to read the first 2 TPB's to understand what is going on. You could just buy this one and enjoy it, but you really need all of them to get the full effect.
