Preacher: Ancient History

Ancient History is a collection of the Saint of Killers mini-series, The Arseface oneshot, and the Jody and T.C. Oneshot. This is a bit of a strange collection. I am not sure what to make of it. All were writen by Ennis but the collection varies a lot. If I rated the 3 collections seprately, Saint of Killer would get 5 stars, Arseface would get 2 1/2, and Jody/T.C. would get 4. So I'll give this collection a 4 and call it a day.

The Arseface is a puzzle, it is funny, but the humor is so dark it might be unreadably for some people. Its like that scene in Resivor Dogs, where the cop is tortured and his ear is cut off. Some laugh, some can't even look. Overall, I just didn't think the story is that great. The Jody/ T.C. story fares much better. Its one of those old adventure stories and its a lot funnier than you might think. The Saint of Killers is just a well written piece of work and loaded with tons of dark humor, especially when the saint is in hell. This is a worthwhile trade to pick up if you are a fan of Ennis's work or own all the other Preacher TPB's and your waiting for the next one to come out.
