Roujin Z is a very weird movie that, to be quite honest, looks cool but makes no sense. It starts off well enough, an elderly man who can no longer move is being cared for part time a young nurse, who happens to be the hero. Then, the government gets a great idea to hook up all the elderly to a machine that can take care of them in every way. But something goes wrong with the prototype. The nurse is using old people to hack the system so the old man can go out into the world. But then the old man wife, in the form of a cat, takes over and wants to take him to the beach. All this is cool but then the subplot takes over and the movie takes a huge turn.
It turns out the bed is a prototype for a US military weapon. It is obvious the setting is Japan, but for some reason, a smart ass US official seam to run everything going on. The US diplomat, I guess thats what he is, puts another prototype against the bed in a really cool fight. I wonder what the plot was in Japan, before the dubbing. Did the dubbers think we needed a good old american consperiacy in the movie? Or is this how the film was originally written? Maybe it would have been better if the guy was working for the Japanese Mafia or something. I don't know, it just seamed really weak. Still, even with the stupid subplot the message is clear, personal dignity is more important than giving it up for what someone else thinks is perfect.
